$ for $ credit & Attracting next coach

1 ) From PFT: I had not heard this. If so, then it weakens the case against early firing due to financial concerns:

Here’s a reason to do it sooner than later. If Rhule lands a job in the coming NCAA hiring cycle, the Panthers would get a dollar-for-dollar credit as to any remaining buyout. If Tepper keeps Rhule until after the season, the college jobs might be filled.

2) If we do have the roster strength some of us believe, it could help to  have Wilks lead a turn around so possible next coaches, (if not Wilks), would see better potential and have more interest.

That would fug up our draft pick though

That offset is typical in an NFL coaching contract.  I wasn't sure what was in Rhule's contract, since they went all in to get the snake oil salesman and with Hurney involved, anything was possible.  Good to hear that part is on standard terms.

If anything, with some big-name college jobs open, it makes sense to send Rhule out the door as soon as that final decision has been made so he can land one of those jobs.  His name has been mentioned with Nebraska and Arizona State (that I know of), and either of them could remove a lot of the financial onus on the Panthers.

As far as talent and a bit of a turnaround to showcase it, we'll see.  I think we have more talent than some think, but not as much as others believe.  I also think the bulk of our young talent is on defense, which might be tempting to a coach with a background in defense.  I know a lot of people here want an offensive-minded coach, but our situation is less attractive to such candidates, IMO.

...or to an offensive coach who can hire a coordinator to run the defense and then build the offense according to his own vision.

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
