Agreed.  We saw it on the defensive side with McDermott and Wilks.   Though Wilks wasn't given much of an opportunity to turn a franchise around.  They jettisoned him as soon as Kingsbury became available.

Like I said, it's never happened.

Maybe we need a coach who almost made it, or failed and was fired from one team, got out of the NFL for a while, and then came back and won it all.  That has happened.

Now with that said, there's an argument to be made that if you don't keep up with the way league offenses are going right now, your risk being left behind.

If you watched the Chiefs-Bills playoff game last season, you'd have to ask yourself whether a defense based team could have withstood that.

And then on the other end of that, you have a team like the Lions who proves that you can have a league-leading historically dominant offense (35 ppg) and still be 1-3 and in last place in your division if you disregard the importance of fielding a competent defense.

The Lions didn't disregard their defense.

They just picked the wrong person to run it.

Still better than Rhule. If Jim Harbaugh won only half the games he did in his last stint he'd still be a better coach than Rhule.

This football organization is in shambles we need an experienced Coach/leader to fix all three phases. Someone who has done it before comes with their own roadmap. Harbaugh was a success record wise but he's still hungry for that Superbowl.

Quick word to Shane Steichen fans (I know @TheCasillas is one)

A potential glitch in getting him to Carolina could arise if the Chargers dump Brandon Staley. There's chatter that Staley might be on the hot seat this season.

Steichen (who is originally from and grew up in California) spent about ten years with that organization. He'd likely be a pretty popular choice to replace Staley if he's let go. Already being well known by team leadership certainly wouldn't hurt.

Whether or not Staley gets fired is up in the air of course (the Spanos family can be kind of unpredictable). Even if it's not this year though, if the Chargers job is the one he really wants, he could have a chance to get it before too long.
