Why aren't we acquiring compensatory picks?

The Browns and Panthers have agreed to a trade that sends Mayfield to Carolina in exchange for a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick (which can become a fourth-round selection),

Maybe I’m missing something in the formula, but I don’t get how a 3-year $45 million ($15 million/year) contract for Haason Reddick is negated by a 2-year $6.9 million ($3.45 million/year) contract for Damien Wilson. Those don’t seem remotely comparable.

It's not that they are the same value for instance Wilson contract is worth a 7th for the Browns this year its how many free agents you sign that cancel out what you get so we signed 3 players therefore the 3 picks we were gonna get we aren't getting its the way the NFL balances roster for teams that aren't active in FA but lose a lot of players as well

We should have erred on the comp picks for 2020 and 2021 while we built up the talent and cap rollover. Had we done that we might have had enough talent to be adding FAs to fill out the roster now.

Instead they went win now and pretend they are the Saints with cap....and a losing team.

Blah blah blah. Comp picks are overrated in the grand scheme of things. I mean, they're nice to have, but so are FAs with potential or ones that fill a need. No need to get hung up on them. The lack of comp picks will not keep a good team or franchise down.
