Gardiner will more than likely be spending this year on LTIR… again.

Quick run down of the lines in practice today.

Turbo - Aho - Jarvis

Svech - KK - Necas

Stastny - Staal - Fast

Drury - Stepan - Noesen - Martinook - Kase

No mention about of the defensive pairings but imagine they were:

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

DeHaan - Bear

Chatfield (R) - Coghlan (R)

Then obviously the goalies:

Andersen

Raanta

Please stay healthy Anderson..... That's is the NHLs deepest lineup and will be adding Patches in Feb..... Health here matters most if Burns/Anderson and when he's back Patches stay healthy this is a cup contender.

One interesting note is Dzingel is with the prospects rather than the main roster group, definitely appears like he’s destined to play in Chicago.

Canes do have a good group of prospects in camp this year outside of Dzingel.

Dzingel, MacEachern, Stromwall, Gunler, Pederson, Lajoie, Dronov, Lagesson, Orr, Robidas, Pashin, Mattheos, Tieksola, Montgomery, Suzuki, LaBate, Farrance, Mendel, Rees, Honka, Murray, Seeley, Ponomarev, Kochetkov, Sawchenko, Vondras, and Hamrla.

Didn’t see Fitzgerald among the prospect group so I’m guessing he’s hurt as he was included on the training camp roster.

Would have liked to seen Rizzo, Wall, Fensore, and Puistola in camp but I’m guessing the first three are getting ready for their college seasons and the latter is staying overseas.

In addition to the above: Bokk, Koivunen, Heimosalmi, Reunanen, and Sellgren will all be overseas.

On an interesting note, a couple of the players that are part of the prospect team are tryout players or on a Wolves contract, not every player that’s on a Wolves contract was invited to camp by the Canes, so the Canes must like a few of those guys on a Wolves contract.

Additional prospects that are overseas or still in juniors include: Slepets, Webber, Mercuri, Nybeck, Nikishin, Nystrom, Guslistov, Naumov, Quapp, Blake, Morrow, Pelevin, Grudinin, Lucius, Forsmark, Perevalov, and Trikozov.

Was reported on WRAL sports on the late news last night that Gardiner has "suffered a setback" and is not participating in camp.

I'm not a cap guy, but how long do we have to carry him and at what point does it become counterproductive? I mean, he's an okay blue-liner, not a franchise player. Why are we going into year 3 without him on the ice?

Last year of his contract, they’ll stash him on LTIR to free up his cap space and then they’ll be done with the situation next year.

Gardiner’s contract was horrible, only one worse was Semin’s.

Ya like MDC said we are in the best case scenario I’d we LTIR him. The only one to lose would be Tom having to pay him for no play. And you know what if we need a blue-liner come playoff time we could always pull a Tampa.

Apparently it was a pretty spirited practice today and Rod was pleased.

One of the younger guys that’s been impressing is Vasily Ponomarev. Ponomarev spent some time in the KHL last year before coming over and joining the Wolves. In the 29 games that he played for the Wolves last year, Ponomarev recorded 4 goals, 12 assists, and 16 points.

In other news, Freddie now has a Lego man on his bucket.

His setback is sucking on a stupidly deep team with a cap hit 4x his value.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
