Does Tepper keep Fitt and let him hire his own coach?

Are we going to pretend he didn't look absolutely dreadful? Are we going to pretend that he didn't have significant durability concerns and then ended up on IR before the season started?

Maybe he'll end up working out yet. But it would be a shocking development based on what we saw.

He was always a project QB. Thats what 3rd round QBs are. He should have been given some time to develop properly but instead he was 4th on the depth chart during a bullshit QB competition when it always should have been Baker 1, Sam 2, MC 3 and Walker hitting the pavement. But again, you're blaming Fitts for Rhule's incompetence. You don't draft a QB in the 3rd round to stick him behind a CFL qb. Anyone with an ounce of common sense knows this except for... you know who.

Everything boils down to "he might not suck if not for Matt Rhule".

What if he just sucks? What if it's not ALL Matt Rhule? What is the argument for Scott Fitterer being the right guy that doesn't rely on Matt Rhule being the entire problem?

Says the guy who doesn't want to trust Tepper to hire a GM but is defending the GM Tepper has already hired like he's some proven commodity. At least when you did this with Gettleman he had actually assembled a 15-1 roster than went to the Super Bowl.

That's what I'm saying here. Fitterer is completely unproven. There's nothing of substance to point to in order to argue that he's the right guy. Literally the only argument is that he might not suck if not for Matt Rhule. That's the entire argument. My argument is that's not enough.

And your argument is that it's fair to judge someone who's saddled with an albatross of a head coach.

To which I say if it's fair to judge the GM that way, why not the players as well? Heck, since you insist that the GM has made only bad moves, why not just gut the roster too?

By your own judgment, Jeremy Chinn is a bad player. Can't have anything to do with how the coaches are using him, after all.

And to be clear, you haven't said Fitterer is "unproven". You've argued that he's bad. A judgment you insist can be made independent of the influence of a coach he didn't choose, yet somehow the same standard can't be applied to players which he did.

You're applying a pretty significant double standard here.

He is unproven to be good because he's been bad. But if he stops being bad I guess he could be good. 😂

Y'all have developed full on Stockholm Syndrome. I thought you might stop doing that after you continued to defend Gettleman even while he was crashing and burning spectacularly in NY but I guess not.

You do you, man. I'll just laugh.

Here's what I'd do if I was Tepper. I'd crawl to Kevin Colbert and offer him a blank check to fix this clown show. You don't have to fully come out of retirement and be the GM. Just hold my hand as a consultant and help me get the right people in place and that's it. Name your price.

Hell, I've been on that train forever.

But given his "nah, me and Marty can handle this" attitude toward the last head coaching search, I'm not exactly optimistic.

I'm not saying Matt Rhule is the entire problem. I'm saying Matt Rhule is a HUGE problem and judging Fitts competence as a GM based on a guy he had no input in choosing and has no choice in firing is not a fair assessment of his abilities. He could be the next Brandon Beane but you wouldn't know because you're focused on blaming him for the incompetence of Tepper and Rhule. He's done his job as GM for Matt Rhule. He's gotten the pieces that fit the head coach's coaching philosophy. Now whether or not Rhule can actually use those pieces correctly is not up to him. You keep saying he's been bad. What has he done, that was solely his choice, that was bad that was worthy of him being fired after 1 season?

Back to this tactic again...which I guess I can't blame you for since your argument was going nowhere.

Bottom Line: All indications are that, barring a miracle, Rhule is likely to be fired. No such signs with Fitterer at this point, thus it's reasonable to expect he and Morgan will have input (likely significant input) on who the next head coach will be.

Knowing that between them, Fitterer and Morgan have about thirty years of experience and good connections within the league, I'm comfortable with that.

Agree that Rhule is a huge problem.

Disagree that he has clearly done his job getting the right players to fit the coach's scheme. This offensive personnel does not fit McAdoo's scheme. These DBs do not fit our coverage schemes. There are square pegs in round holes all over the place.

Maybe it is all Matt Rhule and Fitterer is a genius being held back by him. I'm just not seeing it. At all. Yeah, he'd be out the door with Rhule as far as I'm concerned. We're no better off currently than we were when Scott Fitterer walked in the door. I'd honestly argue that we're worse off.

You can't replace everyone every year. Who's offensive scheme was he supposed to get pieces for? Brady's? McAdoo? McAdoo was always a bad choice of OC for a guy like CMC. His offense is rudimentary and doesn’t begin to use the skills of 2 powerhouse pieces in DJ and CMC. Tepper said get an offense rockstar and we got a Whitesnake cover band. Rhule said he wanted to run a power run game. So we got Ickey, Bozeman, Corbitt, all guys who are run oriented linemen. Now Rhule wants to go pass heavy. How is that Fitts fault? Rhule changed his philosophy 2 weeks ago.

Snows defense is college level. Horn is essentially a rookie, and CJ is in his first full year on a new team. Slater should have been the pick, but Rhule graded him as a guard instead of the all pro tackle he is. Chinn has been playing out of position making him JAG. A good coach plans his schemes around the players he has. He uses their strengths and minimizes their weaknesses. Rhule does the exact opposite.

I'm not saying Scott is or isn't a brilliant GM. I'm just saying we have too little information to make that decision with any degree of certainty. 1 year really isn't enough time to gain that. He's been part of assembling a team with 2 SB appearances and 1 victory. Matt Rhule has not done a fuging thing in 3 years to prove he should be anything more than a mid level college coach. Yet you're willing to fire Fitts because he hasn't shown he's a top level GM in 1. If you fire Rhule and don't like who he's bring in as candidates for HC or what his team building philosophy is, then fire him too. Just don't declare him a bust yet because Matt Rhule pulled off the biggest scam paydays in the NFL.

Exactly. What I’ve been saying. A Parcells type situation, though that wasn’t great.

Even though Scot says Tepper said he wouldn’t do that last round, which I don’t doubt, he needs to see his mistakes or we are forever doomed and none of this poo matters anyways.

JR was one stubborn owner but even he hired help, and it almost got him a Lombardi.

Tepper you stupid stupid man wake tf up.

How exactly does a GM who doesn't have authority over the head coach fire him?

(Tepper gave Rhule full control when he hired him)

GMs normally hire the coach in most circumstances & also have the authority to fire a coach.but yeah thanks to Tepper we don't have an ACTUAL GM more like an assistant GM to Matt Rhule GM slash coach

    • I think it will be hard to not go edge in the second if we go QB first. Say you have Starks, one of Bond/Egbuka, and maybe one Edge (don't have a name to throw out that is end of 1st round projected and may slide)... do you still go Starks? Just curious. I haven't looked into starks much, as I've been focused on QB, WR, and DL prospects.
