Rhule defenders chime in here

I'm not sure the intended outcome of this thread. Do Huddlers want actual optimism or is this a means to drive traffic via bickering and name-calling?

I'll assume the former. Reasons for optimism:

  • Defense is still good
    • Redzone defense seems to be improved; a focus from the offseason
    • Tackling and run defense, a point of emphasis from week 1, seemed to have been remedied in week 2
  • Interior OL holding up well vs the pass rush; Icky is taking his lumps but should get better as the season goes along.
  • Baker seems like an improvement at QB. When he gets time the offense looks decent.
  • Fumbled snaps (an issue from week 1) seem to have been resolved in week 2
  • The team has had the lead in the 4th quarter of both games; they are competitive but need to finish
  • In-game decision making (via the HC) seems decent
    • I liked the "jump the snap" penalty on Ioannidis. Better odds of getting the ball back from 1st and 10 vs 2nd and 4.

This team will go as far as the offense will take it. The defense is good enough. The hope is that the offense will grow in comfort and execution over the course of the season; I realize the schedule is daunting and the record is already in a 2 game hole.

There is talent on this team. And they, so far, have continued to play hard. Shi doesn't drop that pass at the 5 and who knows. Or if Frankie had made that INT. We just can't seem to get over that hump so to speak.

The Panthers are in the midst of the worst four season run in their history.  I would like some reason to be hopeful.  Please, help me see it.

We have CMC, Moton, Corbett, Bozeman, Ickey (at guard), BC (at LT), Moore (as a 2) to build around on offense.

Get a HC and GM who want to work together for a decade. Make sure the HC is capable of competing with the top 10 HCs. Let them find a QB they will sink or swim with for 2 to 3 seasons. Add a young #1 WR in the draft and a pass catching TE.

Keep Chinn as SS, Shaq, and McCall as defensive starters. Burns, Luvu, and Brown become specialists and not starters. Draft a MLB to be the heart and brains of the defense. Look for a lock down CB. There is a good stable of young CB depth and serviceable starters in Horn, Henderson, and Jackson. Need a DE, LB, and CB to start who are constant turnover threats for the opposing offense.

The team has enough for a quick 2 year turnaround with the right HC/GM duo. That is the positive.

Rhule and Fitt have got to go for this to have a chance at being a reality.

I like your idea about hc/gm/rookie qb all coming in together.   I will say though we need to trade players like cmac since it's a 2 year build.   Get draft capital for him while you can

That's pretty standard for that crowd. They always whine about negativity but they always disappear when things get rocky. Funny how most of the people they claim are overly negative are usually here for the wins and the losses.

Guess we see who the fairweather fans really are.

Are we saying your Huddle posting activity is a measure of your Panthers' fandom?  I remember poundaway getting called out by frank during the first half of Week 1 for being MIA while he was literally at the game lol.

I'm one of those who "whines about negativity" (if we're being overly reductive) and I sure as hell don't want to jump on here during the peak of negativity during/after a loss lol.  That's why I historically tend to stay away from Gameday threads.  I don't think there is anything remotely contradictory about that; in fact, it's quite consistent.  I mean, y'all always tell people like us to "just stay away from the boards if it's too negative for you" but then we still get ridiculed for doing just that lol.  It's a lose-lose.

I've seen this claim but where are the Panthers fans actively cheering for us to be a bad team? 99% of fans are fed up with us being bad and want to be a relevant franchise again. These fans doing victory laps are a figment of your imagination.

I know.  Some people take their huddle activity VERY VERY seriously.

Their lives are a joke.   They  think if you aren't posting on the huddle, you're not a fan.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I was camping this past weekend  and Frank was pining for me.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    • They gave him franchise QB money. Sorry but if you don't earn it you can be embarrassed.   He's rich he can take it. Stop feeling sorry for people who can't live up to their contract. This isn't a sport to be soft. Daniels deserves to give back some of that money he stole if you ask me.
    • And it was coming off of a bye week. Perhaps he should vacation a bit in Germany in the off season, something certainly seemed to help him there.  No, really... He showed maturation and the possibility that he's turning a corner. That wasn't the NY Giants out there, but the back to back Super Bowl champions with the #3 defense in the league, with them coming off of a prime time loss. And that was a 9-1 team we just played literally down to the last second. Bryce played so well that maybe, maybe he wins over some nay-sayers. It's still early, though, but what a nice breath of fresh air that was. You can win quite a few games if that is your normal performance. It is obvious that we are still on the learning curve, though. But that was one helluva test he just took. Some of these QBs coming out of college just don't have a lot of games under their belts, especially in top end programs. They are perhaps just a year to two years behind center in games that matter before they move up. It can take them some time to hit their stride. We can still be cautious about our future and still celebrate a great game by the kid, though, and we should. He earned the laurels today, or had before they were snatched away at the last second.
