The whole "find a guy who's good at something and then switch him to doing something else" thing does seem to be a little bit of a trend

Agreed. The “Versatility” movement seems to be something that is not working well.

I think that sort of thing is way more common at the college level. Position switches aren't all that unusual there because some guys are still kind of finding themselves and their natural positions.

By the time you get to the pros, though? Yeah, you should generally know where you're playing.
