The Roar - Aftermath

The logic of how refs/football go should be the same in the end.  Yes, you are going to be happy with one outcome vs the other pending who your team .... but the overall logic shouldn't be different.

If you are okay with the massive Panther win over the Patriots......and that being football.  Then so was Sunday vs the Browns.  Patriots had all game to try to win.  They didn't get a call they should of in the endzone.  That's sports.   The ref didn't' lose them the game though.   Bad calls on final drives get over emphasized vs all the other bad calls going on all game.

I have said countless times the refs blew the call and frankly I think given they reviewed a call together and still didn't catch it...should have consequences for them.  Because it is worse than simply a bad judgement call.  But all that said, the primary reason we lost is because we played horrible, had a bad gameplan and managed it poorly.  That is a greater reason for the loss than that call.

If we're talking about logic: bad calls on final drives get over emphasized because those are the calls we can say much more confidently that directly altered the outcome of the game.  Nobody points to a missed Roughing The Passer call in the 2nd quarter as the reason a game is won/lost because 1) you often don't know whether that call will even amount to points, and 2) any bad calls early in the game can cause a ripple effect that changes how the rest of the game plays out.  Maybe that missed Roughing The Passer penalty will set up a 3rd and long that will draw up a different play from the OC that will lead to a long TD, or maybe if that call was made, then instead of punting deep into enemy territory, your QB throws an INT that gets returned for a TD which is infinitely worse.  Or maybe that call is made which leads to an offensive TD and then the opposing team alters their gameplan and becomes more aggressive which leads to more or less points than they would have gotten otherwise.  Or maybe they call that RTP penalty but then on the next play, your team gets a 15-yard Unsportsmanlike Conduct penalty that essentially makes it a wash.  There are unlimited possibilities.  That's why harping on a missed call early in the game doesn't happen very much because it's impossible to accurately measure its impact.

But missing two huge calls on the final drive that would have been virtually impossible for the Browns to overcome to win?  Yeah, that's a little more clear cut.

or because he is busy with his new gig?

Possibly but he used to pop by and drop off links here and there. If you don't agree cool but there is a very loud pro Rhule contingent here who wouldn't take kindly to some of his takes anyway he does not sugarcoat or kiss ass.

I honestly dont track how people treat ellis here. I read his content, engage, and then move to the next discussion. I just know that he tweeted out last week that he is thankful for all of the support and is moving to a new gig to cover the panthers on the radio show. My assumption is that is where most of his effort and time is going.

Yeah all bickering here aside good for him. Emory the Czar was the another one who went on to bigger things after putting in a lot of hard work into his craft. Happy for those guys.

If you're a fan of the film review + analysis space that these guys occupy, then you should probably check out @TheCasillas "Great offensive breakdown" thread where he does exactly that.

if Carolina had a decent gameplan and the game was managed well.....we likely win that game.  But we didn't.  Neither were close to being good.  I still deem that as more of a factor of why we lost.  And it's more important to recognize that going forward.  We got 16 more games.

Matt Rhule says most teams lose because they don't know why they lost.  I would hope he doesn't think we lost because of the refs.

What should also be an uncontroversial statement is saying that we got screwed out of a win by the refs while also acknowledging we played poorly and were poorly coached, which were bigger issues.

So you agree with me....?  This feels like one of those times where you're arguing with me in principle but you're actually just restating my position.

Is it also possible that the reason he doesn't drop by ever so often is because the team has been ass?

I am new here so I don't know how things were during the days of Cam or even Jake around and how frequent Ellis visited.

@Mr. Scot, perhaps you can elaborate for me.

Honestly, at this point Ellis is pretty busy. He's got a regular radio gig and he's also doing some pregame work with Clemson.

I highly recommend his Twitter.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
