Signing him to that contract for 3 years. It was a head-scratcher then and remains so now.

I was wanting to cut him and save the $2M in cap room last year.  Instead of letting him walk and upgrading, we give him a new deal?  Joe Brady is gone, so the TE position actually exists again on this team.  Problem being, we simply don't have a receiving threat.

Currently the 23rd paid TE by average salary. Whats head scratching about that?thar? That's got to be as low a contract as it gets for a veteran signed this past year

Do you think he's anywhere close to the 23rd best TE in the league? I don't.

I honestly doubt he would've gotten anywhere near that on the open market.

Outside of Taysom Hill, who is now listed as a TE, this is the cream of the crop here.  There's about 8 more after this, then you get to Thomas.  So you have the top elite and top tier guys, second tier, then Ian Thomas?  I don't buy that at all.  He's getting TE1 money because that's where he's at on the depth chart, not because he's actually TE1 material.

Again, unless Baker totally craps the bed, I want Micheal Mayer in the draft next year.  I don't want to wait almost a freaking decade to fill Olsen's shoes like we did to fill Gross'.

this has been popping up over in reddit as well. It would probbaly be a player swap, like Robbie. Cowboys need a WR bad.. and we need a TE. I dont see this FO sneding out anymore picks especially early ones.

I’m kind of thinking RA might have a good season with McAdoo’s offense and Baker’s arm.

I think people heard about this salary being high  but never looked at it in detail or with context.

Because he seems to have zero upside and large limitations at this point, so why sign him to that contract?

    • I think that had his knees been in good shape, he would have been extended by now.  My opinion is based on the fact that they do not to seem to confident about his knees, so should we?  On the other hand, all veterans are playing with some chronic injury of some sort, so how much weight do you give it?  And in today's market, Moton's salary is not overblown.  Unless your concern becomes a problem, you stay the course, I would think.  But Moton will probably not be our tackle when we are a playoff team, so the time to start grooming his successor is probably this year.
    • The Athletic FS had a Panthers fan write in about Mykel vs Jalon. Derrick K was surprisingly in favor of Mykel but gave a pretty compelling argument. You’re getting a baseline great run defender with some nice pass rush potential. You’re not getting the hyper athletic, violent, burst off the snap type, but he’s a grinder who can maintain a great level of play throughout a game. He’s the ideal type to eventually have paired with the more peppy/athletic edge rusher. No one says to avoid a 1B just because you don’t have or can’t find a 1A. And who knows, he could still become a double digit sack guy. 86” wingspan is monster. With Jalon, you’re using him as an EDGE. So you’re banking him fitting a super rare spot, that only Parsons has really followed through at. Myles Jack and others just didn’t work out as well. They mentioned you may just be getting a shorter Luvu-plus rather than a Parsons-lite.  Mykel at 8 will not surprise me in the least, and it could be a solid move.
    • I thought you said he never made use of a TE in his systems before... seems like from your post that he did. Just sayin'...
