Doing a replay again, interesting they mentioned Baker coaching up the O-line after that first drive about things he saw, 2nd drive they looked way more focused. Don't think that's happened in years, a QB actually understanding what the opposing D is trying to do

Things like that make me think he might have a future here. That kind of leadership can make all the difference.

It's obvious in pressers, Sam and company say cliche "we'll get better" things, Baker is actually specifically critical of himself, even on good plays

And then you realize Drew Brees could produce GWD in college and every year of his NFL career. Baker Mayfield couldn't produce GWD in college and missed on producing a single GWD in 14 games last season. He has already fallen short of Brees and he may be efficient like Brees, but he is not Brees in the clutch. Brees produced 7 GWD in one season. Baker produced 7 GWD in 4 seasons with a big disappointing goose egg last season.

I said this back when it was first looking like Baker would be coming here and I got laughed out of the room. It's amazing how perspectives have changed in the short time since.

Baker has real experience and leadership skills. We even saw a snippet of him "coaching up" Corral in that Camp Confidential video. I'm beginning to believe...

I don't know that Baker is going to work out but he's the best QB option we've had since Cam's shoulder got destroyed. That's not saying much but it is what it is.

The guy had a torn labrum and still played through 14 games last year. Cut him a break. I think that also shows some damn toughness on his part.

Baker has always been his own biggest problem, not his shoulder. Let's see what he looks like in week 8 before talking about beyond this year.

Yeah, I'm not 100% on it either, but he has the best chance of anyone we've had under Rhule/end of Rivera. Unrelated to stats, he actually looks and acts like a star player too. Sam never had that demeanor about him. I remember an interview he had with Greg Olsen on the FOX pregame before week 1 last year. Sam seemed timid and not ready.
