Joe Person: Panthers interested in trading for Jets WR Denzel Mims

The Athletic's Joe Person reports the Panthers "have called about Jets WR Denzel Mims."

Mims showed some promise as a rookie, going for 357 yards in nine games. In his second season, he was completely phased out of the offense. Mims totaled just 133 yards in 2021. If a trade isn't worked out, it's likely that the Jets simply cut him before Week 1. Mims posted a pair of 1,000-yard seasons under Panthers head coach Matt Rhule while both were at Baylor. Carolina is also dangerously thin at receiver behind D.J. Moore and Robbie Anderson. The familiarity makes Carolina an ideal landing spot for Mims, though he will remain off the fantasy radar no matter where he ends up.

I don't think Mims is a lost cause or anything close to it, but they're already grumbling about dealing with a 2nd year WR who can't stay on the field, and Mims has had the same experience in the NFL so far. so working on the assumption that the acquisition cost would be discounted by that, I wouldn't be opposed to it in theory. he's not just a Rhule/Baylor mirage, either. he was very highly thought of and made some noise in his first camp before getting injured IIRC.

He knows but his ego won’t allow him to do anything about it.  The fact that everyone says what a terrible hire he is, has Tepper wanting prove to everyone that he was right and they are wrong….. at least that’s how I see it in my head

With recent rumblings about TMJ's availability, this could happen.

I was super high on Denzel Mims coming out of college. The dude is talented, don't let that Baylor association make you assume otherwise.
