Who are these teams with garbage QBs? (don't include 1 or 2 year 1st round rookies)

I don't understand his reply at all. Seahawks are the only team besides us that had a garbage QB situation and the difference is they seem ready to tank and Rhule is trying to save his job. There are a few teams maybe interested in him next year but if he plays well he won't be available for peanuts at that point.

Yeah...We all judge QBs differently so I was curious if he actually has a list or was just talking.

Huh?  His first year he set the rookie TD record while not even playing the first 2.5 games.  His second year was Freddie Kitchens so that wasn't on him.  3rd year he was a top 10 QB and won a playoff game.  4th year - hurt all year.  So, he has had one truly bad year.

He was good for a rookie. If you can play, you can play. All the excuses for a sophomore slump and a vet QB who decided to play in his 4th year notwithstanding injury doesn't work for me. Moreover, Kurt Warner (& some others) said that the injury to his non-throwing shoulder wasn't a legit excuse.

We'll see what he has this year. If he balls out, we can talk. I'm hopeful, but Baker has to prove he's more than just an inconsistent, somewhat above average QB who is mindbogglingly erratic when crunch time comes.

I'm playing around with spotrac and I really don't see how we can get $60M off the books to afford a franchise tag. Enough to take that $5-8M first year cap hit is doable. Still going to be extending/restructuring Moton/DJ/Donte/CMC yet again, and also Shaq might be a cap casualty unless they seriously wanna consider extending him. I could see Robbie getting cut to save $12M

I believe we have outs in both CMCs and Robbie’s contracts after this year where we could make a clean break. That could help. If CMC plays like CMC and stays healthy it would be difficult to move on. Perhaps we could extend/restructure him to lower his hit? Sam with Robbie but he’s more expendable.

Good or Bad, Mayfield won't be on this roster this time next year , he is here to rebuild his reputation so a more competitive team will pick him up, and if he doesn't work out he will be let go

Either way we wind up back with Sam and PJ

How do you figure that? What if he helps build US into a more competitive team? What if we win 9 or 10 games this year and are in the playoff hunt till the very end? What if we make the playoffs? I think he would be just fine signing a new deal with us if the arrow is point up on us overall. Why wouldn’t he? And why wouldn’t we want to sign him? We’ve been playing the QB roulette game for years now and it freaking sucks. We need some damn stability for once there.

It may come down to money. That's why I really think that he's going to really have to show something. If he doesn't, his market will be lukewarm to cold. If he does--and I mean really ball out--then there could be bidding wars. In that case, we'll probably win if we want to. Baker will have to be the franchise QB that people thought that he could be though.

NC is a good place to live as is Charlotte.  Not a big city, but up and coming. Once his family adjusts, he may just want to stay. If this team continues to improve and become a playoff caliber team....that may be the deciding factor (of course if they have the scratch to pay him.)

This type of stuff gets talked about all the time but the deciding factor is almost always $$$. Yeah, I get it. People who love Charlotte love Charlotte and I'm happy for them but it really doesn't offer anything that any other NFL city doesn't have too.

If he balls out he'll be retained. No question. Just look around the NFL. If a team wants to sign someone the cap space appears. There's all kinds of creative ways to manage the cap.

For sure, but my concern is that probably means we will lose one of our stud defenders that will need a new deal coming up.   The ideal situation obviously is the cheat code of a rookie qb deal and they actually can play

He may benefit from a complete derth of quality FA QB's next offseason. Outside MAYBE Lamar Jackson, there is no high caliber FA QB in 2023.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him with a shorter term but expensive contract. Provided he plays well this season, of course.

    • This has been every game this year. We get blown out and have to come back.
    • The really frustrating thing is that Hubert knows why he has to do scheme wise with this roster he just doesn't want to do it until we're down big and he's forced to do it then we come roaring back. Just do the damn thing from the get go. fug how you want to play ideally. Good coaches adapt their schemes to the talent they have. We have a lot of talent we just lack any post presence on either end of the court. Press and get after it from the opening tipoff and stop waiting until you're down 20 to do it.
