Same as OP but id prefer K rob and Burris over chandler and franklin, unfortunately those are rhules guys so Id say your analysis is dead on.

Id be surprised if we kept 10 OL. Id expect 9, especially if we keep Cam Erving, whom Rhule likes to point out can play all over the line. Daley, Mays, or Jordan will be cut (heck Maybe Erving- since BC and Daley have T experience too- for cap space despite the Dead money hit).

9 is likely. I think Daley is the cut. Erving and Jordan both started last season (i know, i know) which tells you how the coaching staff roughly views them in comparison to Daley.

EDIT: Also, Daley "might" have PS eligibility

Updated after reading a bit more.

  • Added a 3rd TE after seeing they kept 4 (5 if you count Ricci) last season.
  • Removed Daley as I don't see the need. Brady and Erving (and Mays?) can cover T duties if needed.
  • I do think we try to add a DT type which may cause Julian Stanford or the 2nd string 3T/NT to the PS.
  • Added Julian Stanford (although Mosby is tempting); Stanford let the team in ST tackles IIRC
  • Backup S is up in the air. I'm going with the two that play ST ... although it is noteworthy that Kenny Robinson is still on the team. it would have been all to easy to cut him after multiple fights last week.
  • I still think we are keeping Roberts in a Return Specialist role
  • Added an initial practice squad guess based on being able to keep 16

Mays played RT in college. I would bet money that that he could beat out Daley as a back up.

BTW, I missed the game Friday but know he took numerous snaps at Center. How'd he look?

Bugs me that our starting LG is our backup LT, changing the whole left side if Ickey goes down sounds like a disaster. It will also probably take a Jordan or Erving injury for Rhule to play Mays who looked way better than either of them.

What is your guess for the initial 53 man roster?

Here is my current guess as to what the roster will look like on August 30th. I will not be surprised if we add to the DL prior to week 1. I could also see us only keeping 9 OL (Daley joins the cut list) and adding an extra DB (Barnes or Robinson) or LB (Stanford for ST).

I think you might see Barnes or Hayes beat STO out.  Also I think because Tecklenburg can play multiple positions he might make it.   I do hope we pick up a couple of O-line vets.

Rhule basically said STO was making the roster a few days ago based on his ST play alone.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
