The Next QB...

I think that we should go for the "cast the biggest net" approach. Aquire a bunch of relatively cheap, young QBs from around the league that are stuck behind a quality vet or have been mishandled by their organization and essentially hold tryouts and see who comes out on top.

A few names that come to mind: Brian Brohm, Chase Daniel, Dennis Dixon, Jason Campbell, John David Booty, Erik Ainge, Brodie Croyle, Troy Smith.

Out of those names, I'm most interested in Chase Daniel and Troy Smith.

You're never going to find a Tom Brady if you don't give guys a chance. I feel too many people focus on the tangibles and metrics when evaluating QB's and are too scared to give guys a chance. Out of the 3 best QB's in the league, one was a 7th rounder and one was the last pick in the 2nd round that everyone said was too short to succeed.

lol..Do you know how many picks we would have to give up for all of those guys.

it was a joke bro relax

I know. But you should still be thwacked on the head.

Could have been worse though. I think we need a rule that the first person who suggests the Eagles third stringer in this thread needs to be immediately perma-banned.

(not to mention beaten to within an inch of their life)

The biggest problem here is the availablity of any of the proposed FA QB in 2010. If there is no new CBA then players have to have 6 years under them to qualify for FA. With that you can cross Campbell, Jackson and others off the list. And without a cap, teams like Jacksonville would really have no reason to cut a player just because of a new drafted player.

Also, Jake has to be cut. The contract that everyone freaks over was in reality nothing more than a cap move and gave Jake no more guarentee money, only salary that can be cut without penelty. To keep him would be a waste of money and in the event of a cap, a waste of cap space.

And don't forget that McCown, along with Moore, is also scheduled to be a FA. The problem here is that McCown will have enough years to still quailify for FA where Moore won't.

I say resign McCown and then draft a QB in the 2nd or 1st if possible. The good news with the draft is that the Panthers are looking at possibily getting two 3rd round comp picks for Omiyale and Hangartner. Those will really come in handy with finding a WR and DT after they draft a QB.

I'm not saying we get all of them. I'm saying they are all QBs to consider. I don't feel like any of them have a had a fair chance to prove themselves yet, and are all potential starting material. Sign a few guys, and start camp with an open competition.

Brees was the first pick in the 2nd round in 01 with the 32nd overall pick (which today would be a 1st). But I agree with you entirely with your approach. Thats how we found our LG. My favorite QB most likely attainable is T Smith. If you brought him in and drafted a QB in the mid-rounds we would have Jake, Moore, AJ, Smith, McCown, and the Draft Pick (please oh please let it be Skelton). Out of that you pick the best three. I think the opening day roster would be #1 Smith #2 Jake (if his deal is tossed and he gets vet min otherwise McCown) and #3Skelton.

-edit- Forgot McCowns contract was up. If we can get him for vet min then I say bring him back. Is Feely's contract up after this season? If so I don't want him back never has impressed me his entire career. This is all assuming Fox is here next year.
