The Next QB...

I think that we should go for the "cast the biggest net" approach. Aquire a bunch of relatively cheap, young QBs from around the league that are stuck behind a quality vet or have been mishandled by their organization and essentially hold tryouts and see who comes out on top.

A few names that come to mind: Brian Brohm, Chase Daniel, Dennis Dixon, Jason Campbell, John David Booty, Erik Ainge, Brodie Croyle, Troy Smith.

Out of those names, I'm most interested in Chase Daniel and Troy Smith.

You're never going to find a Tom Brady if you don't give guys a chance. I feel too many people focus on the tangibles and metrics when evaluating QB's and are too scared to give guys a chance. Out of the 3 best QB's in the league, one was a 7th rounder and one was the last pick in the 2nd round that everyone said was too short to succeed.

so you're saying that gruden is the next HC? i guess casting a big QB net worked for him last year or two.

I haven't seen enough good out of Campbell to make me think he's a QB of the future. And he doesn't qualify under 'trusted veteran' either.

The free agent pack is pretty grim. Best hope for a placeholder probably comes from a veteran release.

Pipe Dream: The Jags draft The Golden Calf of Bristol and release David Garrard.

I also had this thought (dream) after hearing about the Jags and The Golden Calf of Bristol. It would be a very nice option.

But I think your selling the FA QBs a little too short. There are good amount of backups under 27 that have the same amount of potential as a Zac Robinson, Tony Pike, Colt McCoy, and any other QB that is practical of us landing in the draft.

Like I said before we should've started Moore sooner to see what we have in him. There isn't that many games left. I think if he's good, draft a QB and let them battle it out for #1. If he's bad, then cut him and get a vet and then a QB from the draft. If they have to keep Jake cause of his contract, put him as #3.

Have we really seen enough to know that?

I don't think so. And sadly, I don't know that we will :(

I just don't think Moore is the answer. JMO.

But hey, if he does start next week, and plays good...then hell, I'd be fine with that. But I just don't see it happening, especially with the remaining schedule that we have.

The schedule is a killer.

If he plays, I just hope he plays well. Winning is probably too much to ask.

Jason campbell.

QB in the 2nd or 3rd round.

/thread

This is definately my first choice. Bring in Campbell and draft a QB. I would also be in favor of then drafting another QB in the 2011 draft.

I saw in an article that the Fox/Hurney have only drafted 1 QB in the past seven years. Pathetic.

Pennington, McCown, Volek.

I can probably think of a few others, but those come to mind.

We need a QB that can play for two years, and train the one in the wings.

Personally I like Chad P. depending on if he can still play. He is very smart, a true "pro", and likely can be had for cheap. I have been screaming this for a long time, and all I hear is "weak arm" and "can't run the offense" but that is all BS.

These are the kinds of choices I have in mind as well.

And by McCown, I assume you mean Josh, not Luke.

Of the choices discussed, you could argue that's the most realistic option.

Personally, I think that you do. But he has to understand that he is not going to start, and can't cause locker room problems.

I can't imagine Jake ever doing that. He just isn't he type.

I'd love to have him around in hope that some of his intangibles, character and competitive fire could rub off on a new kid.
