Agreed. We've already had a Hesiman winner and a guy who was picked first overall. Let's get someone who actually could transition to the pros rather than just taking some guy who put up big stats in a different type of offense in college. (Recent examples, Colt Brennan, Chase Daniel, and Graham Harrell)

I'm fine with that trade. I think we need to trade for/sign a middle-of-the-road QB like Dixon (I was thinking Thigpen, personally, but I'm fine with Dixon too), and also draft a QB in the later rounds of the draft (say, Riley Skinner in the 6th). Let the two compete for the starting job and keep Jake as a 3rd QB to "mentor" the young guys (ie: we're paying him so we might as well keep him around), or just cut him.

Skinner could be good, his problem is his size. Never know though, could be a Drew Brees type down the road.

I like the upside of Dixon and what he's capable of, different style of QB to mix in which could be good for some looks if Panthers want to go Wildcat

If I remember right, in that draft the top prospects were Ryan, henne and Brian Brohm, with Flacco on down the list and Dixon a ? because of knee injury.

what happend with Brohm? bust so far? I'd take Henne but I'm sure cost would be too high, dolphins need him.

Problem with drafting a guy is there is a decent chance it'll take a few years in the league before they are ready to play and we need to replace Jake ASAP

If Dixon had won the game I would probably be all in on this idea. However, the way he finished looked all too familiar.....

That's why I think we draft a quarterback this offseason AND get a stopgap option (hopefully Campbell or Garrard).

No no and no. We need someone that can win. We already gave up next year's first, and a draft pick for Tank Tyler. I don't wanna give up any more draft picks unless its actually going to mean winning here next year. Dennis Dixon wouldn't be much of a fix around here. Hes just a backup. Not taking anything away from the guy, he played well last night for the most part, but hes not going to lead any teams to the super bowl. Thats what we need.

I told a friend who's a fanatical Steelers fan (and who knows football very well) that Panther fans were jumping on the idea of trading for Dixon. He laughed his head off.
