5th/6th Round pick for Dennis Dixon?

The Steelers don't need a competent backup quarterback? That's surprising, since their starter is among the most sacked in the league.

Seriously, why do you think they drafted Dixon? They obviously saw a lot of value in him in the fifth round, and in his limited playing time he's looked worth that pick.

So again, I ask you: why would the team that drafted him in the fifth round try to get only a fifth-round pick out of him, when he appears better than most quarterbacks you'll find in the fifth?

what needs to they have? Dixon was 3rd string. They drafted him based on his pre-injury value for the pick. Looking like they took a good gamble.

If they could get him for a late pick or something else, it could be worth it. Might depend on what Panthers Scouts viewed Dixon as pre-injury

How long have you been on this board? :sosp:

I kid, but the emotions are running pretty high right now. And admittedly in some cases the logic level has gotten a tad shaky.

Less than a year :o

Yeah hopefully things will get better once more people move further along the however many steps it is until recovery.

you boobs are acting like I'm proposing trading our 2nd/3rd/4th for Dixon, or the possibility of such.

We got harris for a 5th, don't see why trying to find someone who has been in the league a couple years who we may could get cheap and have a big payoff down road. If Matt Moore is as bad as John Fox is telling us, we have absolutely nothing at QB.

What home run are we likely to get for our 5th or 6th rounder that will make an impact next season?

Guess we probably should have traded for Doug Johnson back when he had his good game in relief of Michael Vick too.

Tell me we're not going to have one of these threads every time a backup QB comes out and has one half-decent game.

(we are, aren't we?) :(

I called it, Saturday. I was not surprised to see this thread or the other one....:D

I wouldn't put too much into Fox's player evaluation at this point.

Like I said already, before I trade anything away from a draft where's we're already minus a few, I have to see a lot more than one moderately successful game, especially one that was lost on a pick-off.

If Dixon plays more, and has a better showing, then we can talk.

Right now though? Extremely premature.

Same - I knew that as soon as he completed his first pass that we would see his name in a thread title. I'm surprised we haven't seen one for Chris Redman yet.

Dixon was a stud in college though, might have won Heisman had he not got hurt. He has lots of name recognition, injury just hurt his pro prospects.

I'd love to have a mobile QB with a gun for an arm with our Running Game and Steve Smith, personally.

for the record, I think its a gamble worth taking a strong look at, given his pre-injury prospect and given the Panthers situation.

If he gets in more games and does well in all, price goes up.

With our lack of draft picks and other needs, we may need to gamble on something like this as well as bring in a Jason Campbell to compete with Jake, who unfortunately will probably be back next season.

If Moore comes out and does good, Fox looks like an absolute idiot

I'm sorry, but that makes absolutely no sense at all. If they draft him as a fifth-round pick, they obviously thought he could be a valuable player, even if that was as a backup quarterback. What does Pittsburgh have to gain by trading him for another fifth-round pick? What do they do at the backup quarterback position?

Sure, it would be a great deal for the Panthers, but a horrible one for the Steelers. Dixon seems to have potential and I wouldn't mind seeing him here, but we're not going to get him for a fifth-round pick.

I'm fine with that trade. I think we need to trade for/sign a middle-of-the-road QB like Dixon (I was thinking Thigpen, personally, but I'm fine with Dixon too), and also draft a QB in the later rounds of the draft (say, Riley Skinner in the 6th). Let the two compete for the starting job and keep Jake as a 3rd QB to "mentor" the young guys (ie: we're paying him so we might as well keep him around), or just cut him.
