5th/6th Round pick for Dennis Dixon?

The case:

1) we nee a QB, no First Round pick and we have other needs to use our 2nd rounder on.

2) He has talent, was great in college till tore knee up, and we should be able to get cheap

3) looked good against great Defense last night, in prime time

4) Imagine a mobile QB with a Gun for an arm with our Running game - could run some version of Wildcat and have a good passing game.

New coach could bring him in, a good QB Coach to bring him up and get a Veteran to replace Jake till Dixon is ready. This is one potential option over drafting a QB in second round or trading into First Round, which either way hurts us in other areas where we have needs.

Yeah, this is based on one game in NFL plus his College career and the fact the Panthers are in Desperation mode for a QB.

The Steelers drafted Dixon in the fifth round and it would appear that was a bargain. For peaks sake, why would they trade him away for an equivalent or lesser pick?

Steelers don't need him, and he can't have much value yet.

Chiefs got Cassell for a 5th, I don't see why Dixon couldn't bring that.

bottom line is we either need to find a steal and a "Patch-work" QB to replace Jake next year and use our early picks for our other needs. Or sacrafice in other areas to draft a QB early and hope he learns the game quick.

I think Dixon is worth exploring, plus we have so many Ducks already, so why not?

Maybe we could get some cool Uniform Designs like Oregon has ;)

Guess we probably should have traded for Doug Johnson back when he had his good game in relief of Michael Vick too.

Tell me we're not going to have one of these threads every time a backup QB comes out and has one half-decent game.

(we are, aren't we?) :(

We aren't going to make the playoffs right?

Well what else are people going to talk about?

Maybe we can discuss the value of different plays and formations versus other formations. But that would require research and not just emotional spouting off of random crap.

probably, till something is done and Jake is gone. as i said in first post, we are in desperation mode.

Dixon is little different case though, intriguing I think. He was awesome in College, has good size and a gun for an Arm. He's not some no-name like Doug Johnson.

For the record I wish we had got Vick's other backup, currently doing well for the Texans.

Dixon is a gamble till see more of him, but I think if right price worth making. He would've been a much higher pick had he not tore his knee up his last year in college.

whats the point, Fox/Jake are lame ducks (pun intended)

time to focus on Coach and QB of future as well as other offseason moves.

ashame we don't have a first round pick

Given that we're already down a pick or two, I gotta see way more than one game with only moderate success (and a game losing interception) before I'm ready to give up another one for anybody.

This offseason, we should be trying to gain draft picks, not give them away.

The point?

How about intelligent discussion?

It would be much better than: This random guy played one good game! QB OF FUTURE!!!!!!!!

JAKE/FOX/OTHER SUXXORZ AND RT81 IS NOOB!!@#!@$

COWHER LIVES IN NC HE WILLZ BE NEW COACH AND WE KEEP MEEKS AND DAVIDSON!!!!@@#!!

Which is the majority of posts lately. Albeit these examples were dumbed down slightly.

The Steelers don't need a competent backup quarterback? That's surprising, since their starter is among the most sacked in the league.

Seriously, why do you think they drafted Dixon? They obviously saw a lot of value in him in the fifth round, and in his limited playing time he's looked worth that pick.

So again, I ask you: why would the team that drafted him in the fifth round try to get only a fifth-round pick out of him, when he appears better than most quarterbacks you'll find in the fifth?
