How many sacks did Sewell have in his rookie preseason? For someone who likes facts, you made your own facts and didn't read.

I was comparing preseasons. Sewell worked RT in training camp. Moved to LT in preseason due to an injury/concerns of the starting LT before the week 1 opener. That would be preseason.

You like facts, but don't go by facts.

Will you please read the preseason recap I posted from his rookie year. He played RT in that game. It’s where he was drafted to play and it’s the reps he took. He graded 27. That’s awful and the article was asking if he was the right pick. The whole point is to display how silly it is to freak out and call a player a bad pick after a preseason game. I remember Chase dropping balls and favs freaking out in Cincinnati. Let’s just let him play this season and see how he develops.

It's like all these kids should be pro bowlers from the jump.  It's ridiculous the expectations these fools place in these kids after less than a half combined in 2 preseason games.

It’s more annoying that Rhule’s tomfoolery. Let’s go ahead and address some things before they meltdown again.
-Myles Garrett is probably going to dominate Icky in his first game. This should be expected as Garrett dominates many solid LTs.
-Icky is going to take his lumps as a rookie and may struggle at pass protection from time to time.
Hopefully he will show some flashes and be playing at a high level by season end.

He will get beat quite a few times this season.  He's going up against seasoned nfl vets so naturally he's going to struggle occasionally. But that's not going to even factor into any thought process before fools will scream bust anytime he gives up a sack. Morons.

This forum is making my eyes bleed with the stupidity... I'm reminded why I hid out in the Canes forum all last season.

With the exception of Slater, he was damn near perfect his rookie year.  I wish we had a chance to draft him.......oh wait

Slater was shutting down Chase Young in college. The fact that Rhule watched that tape and saw a guard just because his arms where 1/2 of an inch short sickens me.

All this talk of putting him at OG is fuging moronic. Start him at LT and take your lumps.

Not everyone is Slater. Most of these young LT's doing well now didn't start out playing well.

Let them get the reps and hope they eventually become elite.

No one should expect a Pro Bowl performance by Ekwonu this season because the instances of that happening for rookie LT's are rare.

People (including me) were banging the table for BC to start at LT last season. He was played at guard some at that chapped people's a$$es.  Then he started at LT later in the year and played okay.  People understood that there would be growing pains.

Now?  Well, let's move our #6 overall LT to guard because he isn't playing at a Pro Bowl level in preseason, which is top 3 hardest positions for rookies to adapt to at the NFL level.  Oh Huddle, you never cease to amaze me.

The Huddle is going to huddle.... *You don't play at an elite level playing the second hardest Postion in football after 2.5 quarters of preseason football???!?* BUST

The flip side of this coin is that people have posted similar takes regarding every draft bust ever.

Maybe Ickey is a bust. Maybe he's the next Jonathan Ogden. Most likely he'll be something in between.

Put your best group of five on the field. If that means Ickey at OG, so be it

It's dumb. Swapping Icky and BC for one season is doing nothing but hampering their progression at the positions that they're eventually going to be playing. It's asinine. Play Icky at LT and BC at LG and let them gel and grow if that's the positions that they want them to be long term.

Now put yourself in Matt Rhule's seat. If you don't win this year you're gone. The future doesn't matter. You have to put your best group on the field.

And plenty of future great LTs didn't play LT as rookies. Our best LT on franchise history did not play LT as a rookie.

The same is true of other positions. Chinn played LB as a rookie. The best way to handle a talented rookie is often playing them where their current skill set is best suited regardless of your eventual plans for them. You're better off letting a guy get game experience where he can be successful rather than play him where you eventually see him but where he may not be currently suited.
