That’s fine, but why is he still taking 1st team reps? No matter what you think about the QB situation, Matt Rhule has handled it about as poorly as possible.

He won't be after today. Unless he wins the starter competition of course.

Yeah, teams aren't going to ignore a few years of film on a QB over one preseason game, or even an entire preseason and training camp.  Well, let me say almost no teams.  We might, but we already have the rights to Darnold and PJ.

Rippadon, as far as Rhule trying to sabotage Corral's development, I am more inclined to cite Hanlon's razor, or, as Goethe put it, "why look for conspiracy when stupidity can explain so much?"

The depth chart probably comes down to Darnold or Walker as the backup.  Most likely, the loser gets cut because nobody is going to give up anything for either of them and I  can't imagine  Rhule survives cutting Corral.  I doubt he would get fired immediately, but partially because I doubt Fitts would allow thought to be sent to the league office.  The fact that Darnold costs us roughly $18.5M doesn't mean much at this point since he costs us that whether he is on the roster or not.  I'd personally keep him and cut Walker, but in the end it probably doesn't make much difference.  If either of them is pressed into action as a starter, we are toast, anyway.

And assuming I am halfway right on the QB depth chart, the goal should be having Corral as the backup by season's end, assuming Mayfield plays the entire season.  We need to see enough of Corral to know what we have heading into the 2023 draft.

Oh, he's stupid. Doesn't deserve any more time. Not one more minute. He couldn't do more to punch a ticket back to college football. Tepper isn't man enough to do it.

McAdoo is here. Snow is still under contract. We'd be good to go.

From Panthers.com

“Walker will play the first and the third quarters tonight against the Patriots at Gillette Stadium, and Corral will play the second and fourth quarters.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said that offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo wanted to give them a chance to see what the backup role is like during the regular season.

"It's two things; we want to see them both with the same groups, as best we can, so they both have the same set of receivers, and there's a consistency there," Rhule said. "And then we see them with the third group, so there's some consistency there.

"Then the second part, and this was coach McAdoo's idea, and his perspective, as a backup quarterback, you have to be ready to go in the game at a moment's notice, and you have to be able to excel and play well without having much of a chance to warm up. This is our way of simulating that for them, where they have to warm up and get cooled down and go in there and be hot; that's how I see it."

McAdoo said the challenge for both Walker and Corral would be to play well when they're on the field, of course, but also stay engaged through the whole game from a mental and physical perspective.

"They don't have time to get ready; they have to stay ready through the course of the game. And this is a way to test them on that," McAdoo said. "They obviously have to see the game as it unfolds, they have to play the game on the sideline, they have to keep their legs loose and their arms loose throughout the course of the game, so they'll have to do that in the game."

This is a sunk cost fallacy. He counts against our cap regardless of whether he is on the roster or not. If PJ is better (debatable…they’re both terrible and we’re screwed for the season if we’re in a position where either would need to play, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight) and you want to keep Corral for his potential future development, then compounding a past mistake with another one currently is dumb.

It is sunk cost fallacy.

and they aren’t going to go from co/starter  to cut.   The entire Rhule era is a story of QB mismanagement.

This is too little too late. The whole "QB Competition" was a hoax.

This doesn't make sense unless the qb1 competition is truly over. They kept saying the starter would be announced after this game. How are you using this game to decide if neither Sam nor Baker are playing? And if you have already made up your mind, why not make an official announcement?

Because he said it would be "announced" after the game? He said nothing about the game itself being a deciding factor.
