Sam isn't going anywhere.  He is the biggest cap hit on our roster.

And you really can't cut him and keep PJ and Corral.  Because it just highlights what a complete mess our front office is on talent evaluation and contracts.   Keep Sam and you can at least argue that well, Baker was a steal and slightly better.  Cut Sam and you just are forced to admit you probably shouldn't be in charge of a NFL team IMO.

This is a sunk cost fallacy. He counts against our cap regardless of whether he is on the roster or not. If PJ is better (debatable…they’re both terrible and we’re screwed for the season if we’re in a position where either would need to play, so I don’t really have a dog in this fight) and you want to keep Corral for his potential future development, then compounding a past mistake with another one currently is dumb.

As I've stated repeatedly, I think PJ is actually the second best QB in this roster currently.  I like PJ.  Buy I just don't understand the logic behind this. Whether you are like me and think we should cut Darnold and PJ should be the backup, or of you think PJ is the odd man out at the final cuts, it doesn't make sense in either scenario.

Don't get me wrong, Matt looked like a deer in headlights in game one, and a really scared one at that.  He looked overwhelmed.  But, I've made it a point to emphasize, that's partly a product of not getting reps in practice/preseason games, and being surrounded by mostly roster filler in the 4th quarter of a preseason game.  So, despite how bad he looked, I would like to see him with some NFL level talent around him for an extended amount of time.  Even of he gets the 2nd half tonight, it's still gonna be with mostly roster fodder and future cuts.  And this brings us back to why the reps they're wasting on Darnold are so important.

The one pass Corral got off was sharp. The line proceeded to break down from there. The pocket was disrupted within seconds. It wasn't so much a dear in headlights it was a dude unblocked ripping your helmet off. Over and over.

Matt Corral can play. That's obvious. Put him with other guys who can play.

Matt Rhule is trying to sabotage this man's rookie year in favor of another hand me down. As I've said here, at the end of the college football season Corral was projected a mid to late first rounder. To NOW deny the talent that got him there is Fhulish.

Per ESPN...

Smh.

Its because they need to evaluate the entire offense,  not just the qb.  The offense as a whole runs much smoother with PJ back there.  As we've seen.  I understand that Corral is #4 on the depth chart but #1 in our hearts,  but still.   This isnt just about Corral right now.

After practice yesterday I saw a twitter rumor that seems to be gone. Probably not true. The person stated that the Media has it all wrong. Sam is actually comfortably leading the QB Race and if Baker doesnt win the job out right they are going to release him.

The Baker won already media are just projecting.

The shyt storm from the Huddle if this ends of being true. Probably not. But it would be funny to watch ya'll reaction.

And if this rumor is true, would Baker take a role as a backup or would he prefer to be released?

If Sam was truly #2 I would think he would be playing tonight.

Something is brewing, and I wouldnt be surpised if it shocks the hell out of us. Trading Darnold Included..

PJ to go off for 250 yards and 3 TDs in 2 quarters and become the trade bait management was hoping he would be. /s

That wouldnt move the needle one bit.  Pj and sam are pretty much untradable at this point.  Unless of course we give up draft capital for someone to take on darnolds contract

I encourage anyone that is interested to listen to ellis podcast and he thoroughly explains why neither is going to get traded

True, but the elephant in the room is #9. Everybody knows the kid has to get his shot. Matt Rhule's treatment of Matt Corral a guy they moved up to get, a guy McAdoo had as QB1 that somehow luck had them stumble into?

Now you treat this Panther, not a third round projected QB arguaby the best QB in the SEC 2021 and 2022 as if he was never anything, fourth on the depth chart resorting to mental reps instead of real reps, air biscuits instead of BoBerry.

For this alone and all past offensive the Panthers should have parted with this coach yesterday.

Trying to crush the rookie's spirit. What is Matt Rhule actually "teaching" Matt Corral? You ain't sh*t with your fancy skill set and circus accuracy.

This is the absolute worst situation a rookie could be in.

Tepper needs to man up and fire this guy now. Let McAdoo and Snow figure it out. This is worse than Seifert and is showing no signs of improvement.

This coach is making mistake after mistake after mistake.

Tepper is soft. Jerry would have put this joker out on his ass already.

Today, not challenging your starters, disgraceful. That's not football.

i hate to imagine how some of you handle adversity in your day to day lives

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
