OK sounds like coverage wasn't great so I'll put some more effort into getting as much as I can from today in a post (or multiple posts). I saw much less of our defense as they were on the far field but still have plenty of highlights (and some lowlights) from pretty much every phase of the practices today.

From what I've heard/seen, I don't think the beat reporters and analysts were that bad, but apparently the Patriots radio guys sound like the pro wrestling announcers that favor the heels.

Has to be bias because nobody could reasonably disagree with you, right? 🙄

I've asked this before, and to date nobody has stepped up and answered

Outside of the "year three" stuff and other generally speculative bullsh-t and happy talk, no one has given me any evidence that suggests Matt Rhule has suddenly become a competent NFL coach and everything is going to be better this year.

On the flipside, I can point you to over two years worth of evidence that says Matt Rhule is garbage.

So if you've got an actual reasonable argument why Rhule is going to be turn the corner and be a competent to good NFL head coach this year, here's your chance to present it.

Give me all the reasons why I should trust him despite everything I've seen so far.

I’m a fan of my team winning (duh) so Rhule isn’t my bestie, but I would say there is always a case to be made for a coach when he doesn’t have even average QB play, and a dogshit offensive line on top of that.

There was also a lot of smoke regarding a lack of competency with Brady at OC.

Additionally the best weapon on the team hasn’t been able to play (CMC).

Add all that up and you have a team that’s completely neutered on one side of the ball. It’s laughable after listing it.

Now you can make an argument that roster/draft/FA decisions fuged the game day roster, and without being in those decision rooms, we could only assume that Rhule messed those decisions up that impacted the offense on game day.

Rhule isn’t all bad, and the good decisions would be much more apparent if we had a QB the last two years. Those losing teams are probably .500 teams if the forward pass was part of the offense.

Because calling anybody who disagrees with your opinion "biased" is just a lazy dodge.

I and numerous others have given multiple reasons why we don't trust Matt Rhule. Is some of that based in emotion? Probably, just like some of the people defending him base their ideas in optimism or loyalty to the team.

But it's also true that a lot of it is purely analytical. Likewise true that you can find plenty of criticism of Matt Rhule in various independent sources, few of which could be credibly called "biased".

So again, if you feel my opinion and viewpoint are biased rather than analytical, you have the option to say so. But it's a lot more credible if you can actually present evidence of an opposing opinion.

If not, okay...

"Dumbass" is not a very analytical word.

Great new staff. Rebuilt OL that looks very promising. WR core that looks better than any we've see in years. A young QB with a playoff win and a chip on his shoulder who's playing very well so far. A good looking secondary and LBs who look better than expected. Our main players have just outplayed the .Comms and Pats who are potential playoff teams based off of last season.

Are the reasons acceptable to you these days or do you still feel the need to express your hatred for our HC some more?

What happened? I don't know but I do know that it will eat you up inside. I know you a little bit and I like you but man, lately it's just all hate from you.

Relax. Let it go. It's supposed to be fun.

All of those are personnel based things, and I haven't been critical of our personnel or our roster.

Talk to me about coaching, about practice management, about depth chart decisions, things like that.

Defend to me having a "quarterback competition" to settle a question that was pretty obvious to everybody else.

Explain the idea that a guy who was drafted at #6 overall specifically to be the left tackle had to "earn it" when most other teams will just slot them in and give them the reps they need to start learning immediately.

Talk to me about why we give camp and preseason reps to a quarterback who's not going to make the team over a guy we're supposed to be prepping for the future.

And dude, please don't do the psychoanalytical bullsh-t. I'm not "eaten up inside". That sounds as silly as the guy who said that all the people with negative opinions must just hate themselves. I have real world things to handle. Football talk is meant to be an escape.

But that doesn't mean it all has to be positive.

I could sit here saying glowing things about Sam Darnold? Is that going to make it better? Is it going to make fans feel any better when he goes out on the field and stinks it up?

Bottom Line: I don't trust Matt Rhule. He has yet to give me any reason to do so.

Can he change that opinion? Sure, but it's got to come with wins, not optimism or speculation.

Yeah, you don't sound personal at all. Just solid facts and science. I see it clearly now.

Really? Just read through this chat for examples that contradict that statement and I'm sure you will find many other examples on every thread you've posted in for the last 5 months.

Nobody's all bad...

But the thing is outside of uncontrollable stuff like McCaffrey getting hurt, a lot of the things that went wrong were directly traceable to decisions made by the head coach.

You can hope for better decisions this year, but barring some seriously spectacular improvement, it might be a little too late.

You give good reasons why we'll be better this year but most of this comes from the GM not Rhule.  If Rhule hadn't been forced to bring in a much better staff I don't know if he's still here.

We could agree that Rhule had some hand in bring in some of these coaches and I am sure he was in the process but I believe credit goes to Fitterer.  IMO Baker was all Fitterer.

What makes me think Rhule is the same as 2020 and 2021.   His job is on the line.  Of all 32 coaches in the league his seat is probably the hottest.  Yet, 3 1/2 weeks before the season he is still dabbling with a QB controversy that 99 our of 100 people know who is going to start.

Most teams put the best players on the 1s and make the players behind them show they are better.  Rhule doesn't do that.  He is putting players like Elflein and Jordan ahead of better talent.  To me this is not the sign of a good head coach.

Rhule just might save his job in 2022 but it won't be because his "process" is any better than before.  It's because he has a great coaching staff who will carry him.  This will be like Nagy who was carry by Peyton Manning.  When Manning left Nagy reaped the benefits of Manning and got a couple of gigs where he proved the greatness wasn't from him but someone else.

Actually, this sort of reaction is what sounds emotional.

I gave you specific things to answer. Instead you respond with this.

Are you not going to offer any kind of rebuttal to the assertions that I made?

    • I have no clue how much he will be on the field. I hope he plays well and doesn't get injured. Keep in mind that rookie rbs are typically hampered by struggling a bit with pass protection assignments. It seems it is a bit more of an adjustment from the college game.
