Rhule on practice reps

I think at this point, if you still have faith in Rhule and his ability to evaluate players then you are a sheep or you just get your jollies off by being a troll.

It goes all the way back to Baylor. During Rhule’s first year at Baylor it took him nine weeks to figure out that Charlie Brewer was the best QB on his roster. Anu Solomon (transfer from Arizona) was the day one stater that Rhule trotted out there in Baylor’s loss to Liberty. The second week rolled around and once again, Rhule trotted Solomon out there, Baylor lost to UTSA. By the third week, Solomon had medically withdrawn from Baylor, Rhule trotted out Zach Smith in a loss to Duke. Smith would go on to start week four and five. Brewer finally saw action in week six but he would continue to split in-game reps with Smith until week nine. Brewer finally received all the reps in week nine against Kansas, Brewer led Baylor to their only win that year.

In Rhule’s second year, he would continue to split reps, this time between Brewer and Jalan McClendon.

In Rhule’s final year at Baylor, he once again started the season by splitting reps at the QB position. Both Charlie Brewer and Gerry Bohanon would split reps for the first few weeks. Brewer eventually won the job and took Baylor to the Big XII Championship.

All this to say, it took Rhule three years to finally settle on the guy who was responsible for the one good season that he had in college. Funny enough, Brewer is now trying to become the heir to Malik Willis at Liberty.

As for Rhule, the guy simply cannot evaluate talent.

Interesting. Sounds like all the coaching changes and upgrades Fitt made to the team didn't teach Rhule a single thing and Tepper is for some reason enabling him. Tepper and Rhule must have the same undiagnosed personality disorder and too much money to care

Look everyone knows that Baker is the man who was brought in to start. Rhule does too. So there is no other reason to work both unless you think you will need both. Baker getting the first nod was the end of the competition.

Need both? It’s called a backup QB.  They get backup QB reps and are called the backup.   They come in if the starter is hurt.  Rhule’s backup has always been ready to go.  In fact, he has never lost a game when he went to his actual backup QB for whatever that is worth.

If it’s the end of the competition then Baker would be deemed the starter.  Would command the role.  Rhule hasn’t done that. He would get starter reps.  Get to work on developing better chemistry with his center for example.   Didn’t we see a botched exchange Bakers one drive? Are Elflien, Jordan and BC the starters? They got the nod.

Looking past how awful Rhule’s thinking and processes are in developing this team, and let’s be real, his record of sucking clearly backs all of that up so far.

What is this idea that having better coaches (supposedly) on staff making everything alright?

That we might have somewhat better success in spite of Rhule instead of because of him? Like what’s the point just get a better HC lol

I'd have rather seen Corral go somewhere else with the joke of the number of reps he's getting.

If Baker is going to start and Sam is going to be the backup, then there's no reason for him to be here. It's not like people are going to line up to pay Darnold after this season.  And if Baker can play at least to the level of Jake or Cam, I doubt that he's going anywhere.

At least Sheena tried to ask the question, albeit it was phrased as a softball but she at least tried.  Props to her

It would help if the media didn't value access to the extent that it kept them from asking tough questions.  She did at least try, which is better than DG not really asking tough questions while acting like he did (even when he wasn't on the payroll)

Watch and see how it unfolds. Everyone is making mountains out of molehills

    • Agreed. A healthy bit from column A (stats) and column B (film) paints the most accurate picture, which is currently that Bryce is not performing up to the standard a 1st round QB (let alone drafted #1 overall) is expected to (statistically). When we dig into the film to see why, we see that while he's having his struggles (not stepping up in the pocket, bailing out early, hesitating on some throws, making occasional bad reads, etc) the team that surrounded him last season was simply awful. Bottom 5 defense, bottom 5 OL, bottom 5 weapons... but somehow one player has to overcome ALL of that in their rookie season? Yeesh... Taking this season into consideration, he started where he left off last season and was rightfully benched. Since starting again, the team has gotten on its first winning streak in a few years and he's made good plays to keep them in the game. Is he lighting it up? Nah... but he is beginning to show the reason so many draftniks had him as QB1a for his class. Re: what the team does next season... who friggin knows anymore at this point T_T. Resign Dalton? Sign Jones? Draft somebody in the mid-to-late rounds? Go with another UFA? Maybe grab an FA that can compete with Bryce for the starting position and draft a rookie to sit and develop? Might be best of both worlds for the team, but ugh... not a fun position to still be in with question marks throughout the position group.
    • Yeah, this is basically the same as asking, "What if Bryce Young suddenly had Patrick Mahomes brain, how would he do?" It isn't happening. This ship is beyond sailed. Send him somewhere else, let us move on and him move on.
    • Dalton is too close to starting right now. If it hadn't been for a car accident, he still would be. Switching Dalton for Jones does nothing except reduce the backup's age by a decade. One is in his NFL prime, the other is almost in his NFL grave. Not a horrible move if you're trying to improve the team. We've got to get better as a team and a lateral move like that would improve the team. The problem isn't that he's close to starting. The problem is we have a GM that signed off on BY and didn't bring in any serious QB competition for camp, a HC that said yeah, he's my guy until BY poo the bed so bad he couldn't start him, and an offense that's limited because BY can't make all the throws a normal NFL QB can.  The problem isn't that Jones could be an improvement as a backup QB. The problem is he could be better than our "franchise" QB.
