only reason i could see trading smith (and the only reason i would want to) is so that we could get a couple high picks...a first and some other high pick. of course i would want a guarantee that they wouldn't blow the pick(s) on things that weren't exactly needed.

i would rather he stay here and we find out that moore can actually play really well or that we draft a good QB in the 2nd or 3rd and let him sit next year while we start mccown.

jake made smith as much as smith made jake. they had some kind of crazy connection going on there but i don't think that connection is there anymore...at least not on the field. smith also doesn't have the fight and speed that he used to. it may take a little adjusting to the new one, though he did pretty well when moore started in '07.

as to the OP: to want him gone to another team just so he could succeed more? that's pretty anti-panther talk. imo, you root for the team to get better, not hope they lose one of their best players to spite it. you are as much a panther fan as the falcon/saint/bucs trolls we have in here.

It's a "Gift of the Magi" type question. Trade him for picks (which we need) or keep him for the value he brings?

If there is a coaching/GM change, I'm comfortable with either option depending on what they think.

If Steve Smith requested a trade this offseason...would anybody blame him? I would hate, and I mean REALLY hate to lose Smitty.

We know that will never happend. Jake won't be here longer soon, so maybe Smitty will do better with Moore or whoever become the starting QB. We'll see.
