He's either coddling Darnold or not ready to admit they failed on evaluating him and handing him the starting job and 5th year option last year.

Not everything that happens inside the panthers building is an instance of coddling Darnold lmao.

I admit, I see no point in having this farce of a competition any longer, but to think there's an iota of a possibility of Sam as QB1 anymore is a masochistic way of looking at things, stop torturing yourself over it when everyone here, in the media, and in the locker room/ facility knows who QB1 is already.

not sure how you possibly got that with the lack of footage that is being released, but by all accounts Baker has had 2 really good days in a row now and his stats on the 2 min were fine. me thinks you have an agenda

Nope. We just have different definitions of "good." Sorry, I don't consider players like Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield as "good" and you will see in the regular season just how "good they are."

After you get to the 3rd stringers your results would be skewed.  Going against objectively worse competition to appease the masses on The Huddle isn't going to do much for Baker, if they (Baker/Sam) play past the 1st I'd be big surprised. Then what? Leave MC out there to play 3ish quarters? Nonsense talk.

I get that-I really do-but I think they really need to get to Corral while they have a chance.  He will be buried this season as the #3 and they have some huge decisions to make about the QB position this winter.  But to your point, by the second half of most preseason games, you are getting practice squad hopefuls, so it may be more harmful than helpful...

Baker is pathetic.... Cant believe we actually have two awful QBs still battling. Is this really where we are at?

Show me where Baker hurt you?  Was it just mentally?  We already know you are going to be the guy screaming Baker is terrible after every incomplete pass no matter how well he is playing.  He is our QB this year and has had success in this league whether you want to admit it or not.  Let's just see how he does first and if he sucks then we let him walk with no cost.

This musical chairs crap on the oline is probably the stupidest thing being done an offensive line needs contiuntey, There is literally no way that some combination of Ickey/Christenson/Bozeman/Corbet/Moton isn't the top 5.

The OL needs chemistry

Because he is not any good. QBs like Darnold, Teddy, Mayfield, (post injured Cam), PJ Walker, Will Grier and all the reclamation projects is the worst possible way to run a team. We are the only team in the NFL interested in these type of players. I am sick of it and even if Baker has his best season ever its not like we are winning the division and 8-9 9-8 would just put us in no mans land again, gives Rhule another excuse and we rince and repeat with someone like Daniel Jones the next year. I am praying Corral works out b/c we will likely hurt our chance at another top QB in the draft again.

What would you have done? Traded for Stafford? For Russ? Draft Fields? What is the solution to this problem since people making a pretty penny to make the decision either haven't looked or done it so far.

I'm sure MC will play a healthy bit 1 1/2 - 2 qtrs.  I just don't see it likely that Sam/Baker gets a drive a piece and then it's the MC show for most of the game, give him reps against the 2s/3s but when they start digging in the bag for players put PJ in to run the plays and let our bottom roster guys compete.

Baker Mayfield was a top QB in the draft. Sam Darnold was arguably a top QB in the draft. Jameis Winston was a top QB in the draft. And if you're dysfunctional enough to have the number 1 overall pick, the odds are better than chance that the top QB in the draft isn't going to be your franchise savior.

So maybe you should start rooting for the team to do well with the pieces we have, and get over your loser mentality of hoping we suck enough that next year we might find a magic bullet.

We drafted a QB and signed Baker on a cheap ass deal to hold the position down until Corral is ready.  What are you still crying about?  Are you concerned Baker will be too good and ruin our draft position, because that ruins your argument that he isn't any good.  If he isn't we should have a nice high pick in a loaded class next year with no financial obligation to Baker. There is nothing to cry about concerning the QB position except how Rhule is handling this "competition."

I would've never signed someone with an obvious ceiling like Teddy Bridgewater (to a MASSIVE contract) and would've tanked only one year and had the choice of T Law, Wilson, Jones, Lance, Fields, etc while having a ton of money to build around them. Also, would've fired Hurney before selecting a head coach. Not that hard.

    • One has a proven, offensive-minded, Super Bowl winning head coach along with a top 5 OL + defense. He's being protected and getting the ball back not having to chase the other teams. The other had Frank Reich + Thomas Brown their rookie year with a bottom 5 defense as well as a bottom 5 OL that gave up the 2nd most sacks against a rookie QB ever. The sophomore season is being ran with a top 5 OL but also with a rookie HC (that has just one year of OC experience) and a bottom 5 defense still. The Broncos defense has allowed over 20pts just three times this season (26 vs. SEA (L), 23 vs. LAC (L), 41 vs. BAL (L)). Meanwhile, the Panthers have had ONE game where the defense gave up less than 20pts (vs. NYG (W)).   I'm not sure how folks couldn't expect Bo Nix to statistically perform better given their incredibly different situations. With that said, I didn't expect Nix to keep ascending as impressively as he has this season. Hopefully his arc will give other older college QBs a better shot, especially given the recent media blitz against the NFL regarding how development of the QB position in the league seems to be non-existent. Hopefully Bryce continues to improve as well, of course.
    • “You can learn a lot in 10 games,” Nix said. “[I’m] still learning, still growing, but just finding ways to execute the play that’s called, no matter what it is: run play, pass play. It doesn’t matter. Just finding the right way to go with the ball.” To that point, Nix noted how his developing partnership with head coach Sean Payton has helped Denver’s offense get to the next level. “To be honest, I think at the beginning, you kind of make the NFL bigger than what it actually is,” Nix said when asked where he feels he’s made the most strides. “These players are really good, but at the same time, you have really good players on your level. I think simplifying the game, trying to play as fast as possible, and finding a completion, which is what we’ve been able to do here recently. “I think as we’ve gone on, Coach and I have found a good rhythm of what we both like, what we can kind of put out there on the field, and what we can execute. Then the guys have kind of adapted to it, found our roles within the offense, and executed at a high level. It’s just all about slowing the game down and processing things in a manner that you can handle. Just kind of see one or two things, and let those guys take you to where the ball is supposed to be.” -Bo Nix From what I'm gathering regarding Bryce, the Panthers entered this season with a reset mindset. It's Young's rookie year, which explains the benching. Now, we're beginning to see the development of Canales and Young's offense. Slow development but we're winning 😃
    • Bix has more tds through his first 11 games than bryce has his entire career....no comparison at all he made amazing throws during his first games his decision making just keeps getting better.  Young does not have the physical ability ro make the rhrows bo makes
