What would it take for you to be a fan of Rhule and Tepper?

Several seasons of having a good team that is in the mix for the playoffs.

This brings up a point...

My opinion of these two guys wasn't formed overnight. It's not going to be changed overnight either.

I know a lot of folks have said "winning" and some have clarified "consistent winning". That's key. It has to be more than just this season.

If a consistent winner isn't built, nothing changes.

A year ago I was behind Rhule.  I was not a fan of the Darnold deal or the way Teddy's exile unfolded, but I don't need to agree with everything they do.  The proof is in the results.

I was not "over the moon" when we started out 3-0 because I realized this was not a 12-5 team.  I was hoping we would be in the chase for 8 or 9 wins.  I hoped for competitiveness, win or lose, because we saw more of that in 2020 than we expected.

Then the bottom fell out.  Losing is one thing, but looking lost about what is happening and clueless about what to do about it lost me.  His response was wide-eyed chanting that the process was working despite all evidence to the contrary, and "ommmm, trust the process, ommmm."

The world is full of BS artists, and right now, he is on my list for that.  He can get off that list, but more chanting and doing the same things expecting different results is not the path to do that.  He doesn't need to win 12 games this year, but he needs to prove he knows how to win games in the NFL.

You know ….. if Rhule becomes a good coach and we win, it will change the NFL coaches. Teams will stop the 1-2 years and fired, they will let the coaches develop too

If I had to wager on whether Matt Rhule was going to change the way other teams look at college coaches or he was going to confirm why you shouldn't hire them, I'm gonna bet on option two.

Yes and no.  Part of the problem is there have been some epic bad coaching hires.  When you hire Urban Meyer or Greg Schiano, the odds are almost certain that they are going to lower the average NFL coaching tenure.

I'm not a fan of creating a coaching carousel every 2 years (or less), but some of these guys would have caused me to pull the trigger very quickly had I been dense enough to hire them in the first place.  For example, if I had been the owner of the Denver Broncos at the time, Josh McDaniels might have been moved out of his office by security before he ever coached his first game.

A lot of extremely short-tenures have been completely predictable (as in the phrase "what did we think was going to happen?" applies) and self-inflicted.

Rhule is on a completely different level as some of those guys.  He may be clueless, but nobody is questioning whether his membership card in the human race is a forgery.

    • KC has a very good defense this year. It is 5th overall. Yes, still worse than last year, but their offense is considerably worse. Their passing D may be their "weakness" but they still allow fewer than 20 ppg. BY completed several deep passes yesterday, and he was able to threaten downfield in ways he didn't seem capable of before the benching. I'm not necessarily worried about his ability to connect deep anymore. What to me was impressive was that he did all this without a run game. We used the pass to set up what little running success we had. Wild.
    • Solid and fair assessment.   I will say, one of the big things I noticed yesterday was that he wasn't shy to step up into the pocket in the face of pressure.  He's trusting the IOL.  And they took care of Chris Jones yesterday.  We had clean pockets but also good success rate vs. pressure which just hasn't been the case with Bryce.   If he has more confidence the OL gets it done and he can navigate and step up for throws, that's huge.  It's one of the biggest things that's held him back.  He was previously bailing quickly and just too easily throwing away or making dead plays.     He was finding his 2nd to 3rd reads within structure/without bailing in the pocket.  That was nice to see, as much concern I have with him.  And the overall limitations will always be there. Time to back it up this week against the Bucs.
    • Suddenly the Cowgirls look like our best chance for a win remaining. I think the Bucs are playing better than the Falcons of late.  Our lone game versus the dirty birds is in the ATL where we always struggle.  The Cardinals are marginally better than I thought they would be. We are not beating the Eagles, they are starting to roll. I'm saying two at most, next week at home versus the Bucs and the Cowgirls.
