"Bench Jake for Jake" campaign

I have heard from everyone that is or isn't a Panther fan that although Jake Delhomme is a horrible QB.. "he is a nice guy". This has been the problem.

He was a reliable QB in the past that got us to the Superbowl and almost won it(thanks Kasay), but the truth is right in front of Fox. The truth is that his good buddy that made his career is not as good (or lucky) as he has been in the past. However you see it.

As selfish as I am about this team I understand a loyal friend. I'm not sure I would have done the same in a similar situation, but I digress.

By Fox's latest comments, I think this is the last of Jake's rein as a QB that gave us some great seasons including an improbable Super Bowl run. He is still a nice guy. And just like a great dog that we have been fortunate to own in the past, he deserves the humane treatment.

Fox was loyal, to a fault many say, but loyal to a good friend and that says a lot (you can carpool in to box your belongings).

I may be wrong and they both go down like the Titanic (minus the crazy dude running around shooting at people; it was in the movie folks) but it seems like Fox is in his job security mode which will be to say "injuries and bad draft choices are the reason for Jake staying in there. But hey, I did go to a Superbowl 6 years ago!!!". Six years ago was the last time Fox had a job evaluation.

Fox I commend you on a great run and for being a loyal friend but I insist you "Bench Jake for Jake". You are ruining a legacy in our teams history much greater than yours. The city loves Jake (nice guy again) and appreciates all of your great seasons (not consecutive. So maybe its season). The fact of the matter is that you need to do the right thing and hope that Matt Moore gets on a tear and you can buy one more year to bring back 2003 type runs and save your job. Or you can help us remember a great leader. And a nice guy by the way.

Say what you want about Jake but there are plenty of teams that would kill to have a QB start for 6 years, go to a Superbowl (his next to last evaluation) and consistently heave balls into the air with a lot of success. I like Jake cause he is a nice guy but more importantly he made my game days thrilling because I never knew if he would make the big throws that won the game. Or the pick six, fumble, batted ball, etc..... Unfortunately now I know it is going to be a three yard pass or heave into traffic which is becoming sad.

So I am pleading with Coach Fox to "Bench Jake for Jake" and preserve the history of a nice guy. :dupe:

Nice write up. We can all get frustrated and call for firings and benchings, and most of it is justified, but it's nice to remember that for all the flaws, the Fox/Delhomme era has been the best in franchise history. It's probably over now, and rightfully so, let's be positive about how much success we've had over the last 6 years. If Fox chooses to leave Jake out there to close out the season, let's give them the dignified goodbye they deserve.

I hope his recent play this season isn't what I remember him by for the rest of my life. If Fox would have benched him earlier in the season, I could still explain to people why I have a Delhomme jersey and 3 posters of him on my wall. Not so much anymore though. :(

great read AZPanther. But be careful around here. You're undoubtedly going to get flamed for being a newbie around here and thus, knowing nothing about Panther football.

Thanks for the warning:) Already happened last year 4 games into the season when I said Peppers didn't play hard and needed to be traded.

good stuff man. i am not a jake supporter in the sense that i want him to continue playing for the Panthers, but i am a HUGE jake fan in the sense that i appreciate what he has done for this franchise. carolina wasn't on the map until the jake's heroics during the 2003 season and this fanbase owes him a hell of a lot more than they give him.

shame it's ending on such a sour note :(

    • Will he keep this up? Who knows. He's had a few decent and one good game. If he keeps trending in this direction I think we go with a veteran and late round development QB if one falls we really like. If he reverts back to early season play, I wouldn't mind earlier investment in a QB because he has had a lot of time to show consistency.
    • Sounds a lot like the clusterfug we had last year with Reich. Poor leadership loses the team. Poor leadership will cost you your job.
    • According to multiple players and staffers in the locker room, some players were asking why Eberflus didn’t call a timeout. Other players got going, too. “Guys were furious,” a staff member said. “It was an accumulation of this season.” “The locker room was ugly,” another staffer said. “There was a lot of yelling.” Said the first player: “We felt as players it’s been too many instances where we fought our way back into games to lose because of bad time management and decision-making.” Multiple sources added that the emotions were so high between the players and their head coach that Eberflus left the locker room immediately after his speech and the exchange with players. There was nothing left to say. It was a moment for this Bears team that would inevitably force chairman George McCaskey into something the franchise had never done before. By Friday morning, Eberflus was out — but not before the team decided to have him address the media over Zoom just after 9 a.m. Two hours later, he was gone. The Bears made it official by sharing statements from general manager Ryan Poles and president/CEO Kevin Warren.
