SI article on Baker injury..Didn't know a lot about Baker but seems he once suffered the same injury (or cause) as our former QB1

On the play in question, Schwartz was running a deep route to cut in the middle of the field on third-and-13 at midfield against the Texans. But he froze and Mayfield fired the ball right into the hands of safety Justin Reid. While Reid was returning the interception, Mayfield attempted to tackle him and injured his left non-throwing shoulder.

WR made a career choice.  It very well could have been a hospital ball.  Dude, without a doubt, checked up.  Instead of going after the ball and taking the contact, he decided otherwise and his QB got hurt.  At least Baker tried to make the tackle.

Freeze the video at 4 seconds.  The ball is out of Baker's hand and the WR is making his break.  He undoubtedly saw the safety and breaks off the route.  Had he continued the route, it was a very catchable ball. However, a major decleater of a hit was awaiting him.  Again, the WR made a business decision.  I'm sure he didn't think his QB would get injured on the play, BUT that's why you can't play this game timid.

Had the WR kept going, I don't know that the hit would have been all that bad.  The safety saw the ball the whole way and appeared to be playing it.  There would have been a collision, yes, with both players playing the ball and trying to make a catch.  Maybe a catch, maybe an INT, maybe incomplete.

Worst hits happen when the defender is coming from the opposite direction to the motion of the offense player with no chance on the ball.  The safety here was coming at a 90.  This would have been a hard collision, but not among the worst because in this case the safety was not looking to make a hit, he was looking to make a catch.

Makes it a completely different situation IMO

No doubt.  One can reroute your career as a QB.  Warner did a nice video on how important your non throwing should is for balance in accuracy though. Throw this in with the fact he also injured his planting foot, it definitely affected his on field performance and he probably shouldn't have played through those injuries last year.  It may have worked out in our favor though if he can get back to 2020 form.

WRs that do that are straight bitches. You're going to have to catch a bad ball once in awhile.

If it's one thing I can salute Robbie Anderson for it's this. Yeah he's dropped alot of balls but he's also been the recipient of quite a few hospital balls the last two seasons.

Dude has gotten absolutely drilled. Mind you he looks like he weighs about 112 lbs so that might just make it look a certain way.

That route was reminiscent of a Robbie Anderson route from last season.

I not a huge fan of Robbie Anderson either but he's caught some hospital balls for us.. His crying is very annoying and he makes Gen Z look hard sometimes but he's never scared to go over the middle or high point a ball.

    • Passing up Payton Wilson for Tevin Wallace was a huge red flag for me.  I think Morgan is a better pro scout than college.
    • Can’t say I’m mad either. I think we all knew this season was a wash. The roster has been terribly mismanaged since Tepper purchased the team and the chickens have come home to roost. It’s going to take us several years to get back to relevancy. Might as well accept it for what it is and endure the process.
    • The many that he played last year when he also looked like crap. In 3 games, Dalton has had more games where he played good or good enough (2) than Bryce has had in 18 games (1). And the Saints are only top 10 because they played us with Bryce, Philly kept fugin around instead of doing anything halfway intelligent, and Dallas got down like 30 points in the 1st half and had to be one dimensional and turn down FGs - Saints are more middle of the pack on defense. The Chargers have also played some awful offenses this year, with the exception of KC. Not sure how great they are on defense. And there are much worse ideas than signing Dalton to a 2-3 year deal as a bridge QB until our next 1 is drafted/ready. Like, for example, thinking Bryce is the long-term answer... Which is what you are making it sound like you want. And people thought Dalton was again, good enough. Good enough to be able to figure out if any of our skill position players are actually good. With Bryce, we would never know if the likes of Mingo, Legette, etc. are actually worthwhile or not because the dude can't throw it more than 5 yards down field.
