Is Brown a bust?

Not being a smartass. Legit question as last he looked down right bad in games. Got pushed around and honestly looked uninspired. This guy was drafted to be a perennial all pro and game changer and he’s been the complete opposite.

First year was fine so call it a sophomore slump. If he ends up average with an average extension that’s not so bad.

He averaged like 4 sacks a year in college, had 3 last year. Don't really recall seeing anything mind blowing otherwise. Most sites rank him around the 24th or 25th best DT so not exactly top 10 pick production.

He’s still a starting tackle for us so no, not a bust. He will bounce back this year with better defensive assistants.

He had a few games last year, that he looked like a monster, but then many more game where he only looked adequate, and then a couple he barely played. Sophmore slump is very common in the NFL, mainly due to coaches forcing too much on a player in their second year. 

The kid is 24 years old, and has plenty of growth ahead of him. Labeling him a bust is only going to come from the same people who claimed Burns was a bust and that DJ Moore would never be a number 1 WR in the league.

The expectation this year is that Derrick Brown comes out thumping this year. If he doesnt, then we can concern ourselves with his overall outputs.

No. He had a promising rookie season then a down sophomore season. That's not a bust. Not yet. Anyone expecting Brown to be Aaron Donald didn't have realistic expectations. That's not the type of player he is. I've always said that the best version of Derrick Brown is basically a clone of prime Kris Jenkins.

If I may speculate--he seemed to suffer from an identity crisis last year--was trying to rush the passer on every down and got blown up a lot.  If he anchors and bull rushes on passing situations, he should be better.
