Yeah Baylor and Temple were recruiting powerhouses.

Who were their opponents?

If you look back at Matt Rhule's college record, you'll find that in the vast majority of cases where they faced an actual decent college team, they lost.

It's one of the reasons why his hype was so overblown.

Whoever was on the schedule.

Players for Baylor and Temple made it into the NFL. These were players that the big teams didn't want.  Say what you want, but he developed lesser players into NFL talent.  He didn't have the LSU recruiting staff or reputation.

You implied that Rhule relied on recruiting talent.  I call bullshit.

Like PJ Walker? 😆

Rhule made a name for himself by improving teams, but never to the point where they were championship level (or even capable of beating teams that were actually good for that matter).

Looking at that resumé and thinking he deserved full control of an NFL team was flat out stupid.

You may as well just handed the team over to the coach who guided App State to that one upset win over Michigan. Cool moment sure, but not substantial enough to deserve this sort of thing.

Temple improved.

I always felt Rhule got too much credit for Baylor.  They got punished.  And then went back to being what they were before being punished.   They were in the top 10 every year pre-Rhule/punishment.

Like Hassan Reddick.   LOL

He took Baylor from 1-11 to being ranked 13th.  Yes they lost to Oklahoma after squandering a 25 point lead and then again in Big 12 Championship to lose in OT.  But Baylor  is not Oklahoma with 50 conference titles and 7 national titles.

The fact of the matter is, Baylor and Temple players overperformed while he was there.

The Rhule hatred runs so deep that actually generates love for poor Joe Brady who has never accomplished anything as an OC anywhere.

Brady was carried by superior talent.  Rhule just simply wasn't.

Huddlers complain that Rhule hired inexperienced coaches, so when Rhule fires THE MOST INEXPERIENCED, huddlers respond with love threads for Joe Brady.  Vomit.

Not defending Rhule but rather fact checking here.

Baylor only had 4 ranked seasons the 14 seasons prior to Rhule and they only had 6 seasons with a winning record since 2000. Thats far from being in the top 10.  Also, Baylor has only finished in the top 10 twice in the last 20 years....

Pirior to 2000, Baylor only had 2 ranked seasons since 1983. Over a 70 year span Baylor has only finished as a top 10 ranked team... three times: 1951 , 2014, and 2021.

At Temple he beat the following better teams than his: Penn State, UCF, USF, Cincy, Memphis.  At Baylor he beat the following better teams than his: Texas, TCU, OSU, West Vir., Iowa State.

Both Temple and Baylor sucked when he took over and were lacking in talent. He was a very good college coach.  That doesn't always (and almost never when you think of it) translate to the NFL. Didn't for Saban or Myer either.

Honest NFL is a former NFL scout who posts a lot of play analysis. Pretty good follow if you're into the nuts and bolts of football.

His opinion here is that Brady was "scapegoated" and ultimately let go more because he didn't mesh with Matt Rhule than anything else.

Matt Rhule can't even mesh with his own offense. Matt Rhule can't get out of his own way. Matt Rhule wants to ride failed NFL QBs to "victory", collecting them. Matt Rhule, instead of riding on the back of a new rookie QB and the hope and optimism he brings to justify getting a couple more years on his contract to "build" around him wants to again bet on a failed and flawed gum wrapper of a QB. Matt Rhule is saying to Ben McAdoo "your QB don't matter", recycle THIS instead.

Matt Fhule. We went from respectable to laughing stock bottom feeder in short order.

For every Haason Reddick, there's a Tahir Whitehead 😆

Not that it matters either way. Your job as a head coach isn't to develop players. It's to win games.

At the pro level, Matt Rhule doesn't do that.

Rhule could definitely be a successful coach...if he returned to the college level.

At the pro level, I'm pretty sure of 500 season is his ceiling, and I'm not especially confident he can even reach that.
