So what happens with Darnold if Baker is the starter

In my opinion he has to be cut or traded.  We can’t have Matt Corral as a third stringer, he needs reps in practice to develop as our future QB if we decide to move on from Baker.

PJ is gone.  Who is the first  backup at the beginning of the year means nothing.

If Mayfield starts, then they will focus on developing  Matt, not Sam.

$14-18 million for playing back-up QB and riding the pine isn't the worst thing in the world for either guy. At some point, people will be calling for you to come in and you'll be the most popular guy on the team.

Let's not spend too many tears for whoever isn't given the starting spot.

Baker knows nothing of our system and team and camp is a few weeks away.

Doubt he starts.

Darnold vs Cleveland is probably more likely because he will be the better QB at that time.  The moronic thing to do would be to cut him even though we have to pay him, just to make grudge holding fans happy.

Then they get to see Baker look inept because of a short playbook while getting killed by his former team.

What a great first week Sunday on the Huddle that would be

To be fair it’s a brand new system for Darnold too.  He only has the advantage of a few weeks of OTAs.

I would expect Darnold sits all year and walks in FA in the offseason since we likely won't get a trade for him.  With Corral there no reason to keep him.  Plus if Baker plays well we are set - if he sucks we have a high draft pick and grab a rookie QB.....either way Darnold is done if he doesn't start

They have no intention of releasing him. Unless someone makes them an offer they cant refuse. Which we all know won't happen.

Never say never, some team could lose their starter in training camp to an injury, sexual assault arrest, drug trafficking charge, murder for hire plot, the list goes on and on. Darnold could be an option for those teams!

Haha! Yeah it will take one of those things happening.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
