Baker Mayfield is a Carolina Panther

Great! Now, the Panthers have 2 of the worst QBs in the league when it comes to leading a game winning drive. Little to no chance to make the playoffs with QBs like that to bail out a mediocre defense when they give up the lead. The Panthers have a project QB that will see little to no time under center and a team that does not believe he is good enough to start for a team with little to no hope at the playoffs. A lame duck coach that gaslights an owner who has zero clue on what makes for a winning organization. A new coach incoming in 2023 with all 3 QBs not wearing a Panthers uniform by 2024.

Tired of giving up all this draft capital for players once thought of as a gem that turned out to be poo with no proof of metrics necessary for a successful NFL QB. They love to think they can take the poo and polish it up. The coaching staff and front office have shown zero success in spotting players who can become franchise gems.

Panthers are on a mission to stock up on the most overrated 1st round picks and losses.

Yeah, but that Deshaun Watson trade should be going through anytime now, right? 😐

That isn't an answer to why it's SO bad to watch Baker for one season. He doesn't cripple us financially, we lost a 5th Rounder in 2024, and we have Corral on the roster. The only possible reason I can think of is that you think we can throw Corral to the wolves and next season he'll take us to the playoffs hopefully.

We could have got him for a dollar and future 7th and he will still be pissed. If the franchise doesn’t go the EXACT way he wants we is going to bitch and moan about it. It’s a pretty miserable way to be. I’m just glad we got it done for so cheap.

You are not seeing the big picture.  Myself and numerous others have laid it out for you but you are one of the sunshiners and just dont see the forest for the trees

This is another poo trade and it doesnt matter how "cheap" it is, its useless and counterproductive

Are there actual journalist who feel this way or is it just you and the poster who wanted to convince everyone Carson Strong is the next best QB outside of Trask?

Hes had one good season and that was good enough for the 18th best passer in the NFL.

If you're referring to 2020, he was 15th in PR right next to Stafford (14th).  He was 10th in QBR.  TBF he has always had one of the best lines in the league.

He's better than Sam and he cost less that 5 mil and a future conditional 5th.

What do the stats say about Mayfield’s performance?

It’s been more meh and blah than good in terms of a few overarching metrics. Mayfield’s Estimated Points Added per dropback (via TruMedia) ranks 27th among qualified quarterbacks from the past four years at 0.03 (43 qualified quarterbacks). During the last four individual seasons, Mayfield’s best single season in EPA per dropback (via TruMedia) was in 2020. His 0.12 EPA ranked 39th among all individual quarterback seasons (131 QB seasons) from 2018-2021. Mayfield’s other three seasons:
  • 2018: 0.07 (65th)
  • 2019: -0.01 (95th)
  • 2021: -0.05 (107th)
In passer rating terms, Mayfield’s 88.3 mark ranks 33rd among the 43 qualified passers. Of the individual seasons in the span, Mayfield’s best passer rating came in 2020 at 96.9 (51st) among 131 QB seasons. Mayfield’s other three seasons:
  • 2018: 94.3 (63rd)
  • 2019: 79.0 (119th)
  • 2021: 83.5 (109th)

People trying to convince us that this guy isn't a trash QB. LOL

Remember those words and remember what we've said about Mayfield.

Yes I'd take rookie Carson Strong over your Cleveland gum wrapper any day.

Sucked there, will suck here.

    • The other draft picks have turned out pretty well. Brooks will too.
    • I'm still not touching Hunter He again said the other day that he plans on playing both sides of the ball in the NFL.  If he is allowed to do that, he won't be as good on either side as his potential and he's going to have serious injury issues and have a short career.  If he's not allowed to do it, I think he's going to become a problem when the team isn't winning as he's going to feel him not being used on both sides of the ball is why. He's being coddled in that environment with Deion and I think it's doing a disservice to him to prepare him for life in the NFL where your coach isn't a 2nd father to you, to where you can just walk into his locker room and steal his shoes like Hunter does to Deion.
    • He’s a tad behind them. Around 15ish of 32 starters in the league. He’s well ahead of a lot of guys. Tua, Bryce, Cousins (present), Rodgers (current), Devito/Jones, Minshew, Russ (current), Watson, Smith, Carr, T Laws deep ball is weak as poo IMO, there’s plenty. And it’s not like everyone is ripping 60+ers. The key component is if you can rip and maintain velocity of the 30-40 yarders which he does super well. Legit every report out there from Brugler to PFF to PFN document him as good/above average arm strength.  Eye test tells me it’s pretty much that as well, slightly above average.
