If Miami and Clemson are not ready to sell their souls to football (and all that that entails), then they should stay put...unless they're simply selling out for the money.

Miami sold its soul a long time ago.  Some of those Hurricane players were taking paycuts to play in the NFL.  They have a huge football culture as well with dozens of the greats from the past just "stopping in" to hang around the current players in the weight room and practices.  Some of the younger guys have talked about how cool it was to be in a basic offseason weight session and then next thing you know they are doing squats with Clinton Portis, learning the finer points of route running from Santana Moss and watching film with Ed Reed.  Here's a quick tweet talking about this years spring practice with Ed Reed, Edgerrin James and Jason Taylor.  Taylor and Reed are a part of the staff now.  Warren Sapp stopped by and ran parts of practice a few weeks after this, with guys like Vince Wilfork attending as well.

I'm not trying to be funny, but they've even had great trouble in the ACC notwithstanding all that. It's going to take much more.

This is fun for people to say but the reality is different.  As an overall conference the SEC is not what its hyped up to be.  Its the best football conference, but its not a murderers row that would give the best teams from other conferences a .500 record.  Texas A&M put that baby to bed pretty quickly.  They are a better SEC team than they were a Big 12 team.

This makes no sense.

They know they are down right now, no doubt.  I was only talking about their commitment to football.  They have just made a series of dumb decisions, but its not from a lack of trying or investing in the program.  I was contrasting it with schools who don't commit to football and go "all in."

Fun fact:

In the last half decade Clemson has beaten Alabama more times than any school actually in the SEC.  Bonus fun fact: In the last half decade Clemson has more wins over Ohio State than any actual school in the Big10.

Clemson could just take the Gamecocks spot in the SEC.    They wouldn’t be missed and don’t belong.

Bonus fact Clemson plays the SEC once in awhile and beats up on high school teams the rest of the year. They would be kidding themselves if they thought they could do the same in the SEC where every game is a must win not a cakewalk.

Alabama is really good.  Georgia is really good.  But who are all of the impossible to beat teams behind them in the SEC?

LSU lost to Kansas State and UCLA

Auburn lost to Penn State, Houston and got all they could handle from Georgia State

Florida lost to UCF and had issues with Florida State and Samford

Ole Miss lost to Baylor

Mississippi State lost to Memphis, Texas Tech and needed a huge finish to barely squeak by Louisiana Tech

Tennessee lost to Pitt and Purdue

Kentucky barely edged out Chattanooga

Missouri lost to Boston College and Army

Texas A&M struggled with Colorado

There are only so many non-conference games and aside from the cupcakes I just read off a bunch of them.  They didn't cut thru non-conference opponents like hot butter, because they can't.  At some point someone made a comment about how much better the SEC is as a whole and people have been running with the myth ever since.

I mean we play the SEC every season.  It’s part of our cakewalk schedule.   Replace Clemson with UGA the past half decade in the SEC East…..it would have still largely been a cakewalk to the SEC Championship game for Clemson.   SEC East still largely has lived off talking about Alabama (despite rarely playing them).  Clemson has played Bama more often than every team in the East of late.

Oh look another clemsuck fan trying to hyperbole. No one said anyone was impossible to beat. Only that the SEC is a real conference for real teams not ones that like to beat up on schools who have the budget of Charlotte Christian.

I am a Michigan State Spartan.  I actually went to the school I root for.

You have been brainwashed when it comes to the SEC and how they fare against non-conference opponents.  The results do not back up the narrative.

Replace UGA with Clemson and tell me Clemson isn’t still a fixture in the college playoff championship the last several years.

Clemson is 10-1 vs the SEC since 2015 in the regular season.  The one loss UGA didn’t even score an offensive TD.   Clemson wouldn’t be fodder in the SEC.

only way Clemson would be fodder is if their QB and DL recruitment went south.  As of right now the DL studs keep pouring in and Clemson is landing the #1 QB prospect every other season.

Yeah you don’t know what you’re talking about. Everyone in the ACC should be thanking Swofford.

Be careful what you wish for tiger fans. Those games against Syracuse, BC, Ga Tech will be replaced with much harder competition.

Vandy

Gamecocks

Florida

Missouri

Kentucky

Tenn

That’s not a scary division.  Clemson would have owned the SECE more so than UGA has in recent history because they have had better QB play.

Bama and UGA stand alone.  Only teams in the SEC that are consistent.  It’s basically a 2 team conference of late where a random team flukes into a good season here or there.
