Tepper fired Marty right at a year after that compliment was made.

Saying that supports the idea that he'll keep Matt Rhule longer is...a stretch.

Oh, that's what you're saying.

Well, Marty wasn't Tepper's guy. Tepper didn't give him a huge contract after breaking bread. He also didn't say (and repeat) that he believed in Marty or that he believed that Marty was setting up a good foundation for the franchise to be a consistent winner. He did not give Marty any timeframe, nor did he equivocate about wins not being the only way to judge success while establishing a winner.

My money is on him being fired around thanksgiving.

Steve Wilks will be named intern HC and the panthers will go on winning streak to knock themselves out of a top10 pick and show Tepper enough to interview Wilks because it’s widely known he got a raw deal on Arizona and other teams will ask for interviews this offseason.

FIFY

Wilks is already receiving love from players in the building.

Tepper was point blank asked in that presser about Rhule’s job security and what this season meant in regards to it.  He refused to actually answer it.  It was like the 2nd or 3rd question.  He just rambled nothingness as a means to not actually address it.

He did say he believed in Rhule . Same presser he said he believed Sam Darnold was a very good QB.

I still think odds are the reporting on Tepper and his unhappiness and looking ahead to other coaches is legit smoke.  It’s multiple legit folks sniffing out the same type talk. What Tepper says to media is just that.  Sam is a very good QB.

McAdoo is already in his tough love mode, understanding why his skills didn't translate to HC. Seems good with actual QB technique, football field stuff, don't think many guys are running to his office for personal advice. If we're going for this Rhule style rah rah coach Wilks is definitely the best guy in the building. I'm sure he took away whatever useable knowledge he could from the Arizona job, doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that would just disregard the whole situation as a waste of time or anything.

Don’t think sacrificing Sam moves the needle much at all at this stage.

Tepper is in the game to make money.  At some point you can only piss fans off for so many years before it impacts your ability to maximize your dollars you rake in.

The booing stadium IMO clearly impacted the front office last year.  Tepper and Rhule.   Think it will again this year if the boos come.  Sam won’t be enough.  There is no Cam card to play to distract.  Tough ask for Corral.   Cam coming back was its own weirdly unique thing.  Even Corral showing some moments won’t duplicate a Cam type distraction IMO.

Rhule is going to have to win some games IMO.  Not sure it matters how.  As long as he does.

To me, the question has never been whether Rhule has to win games, it's been about how many. I suspect that Tepper is going to go more on how we look winning or losing--our competitiveness, and the W-L column will be a factor in that.

I just don't see how anyone--Rhule supporter or hater--that's been paying attention would be comfortable betting that Rhule would be fired at all in January (or before) after listening to Tepper's presser. 2023-2024? Yes, that would be a better bet. But 2022-2023? I'm not putting a single dime up.

And yet he was ready to overpay for Deshaun Watson (the most divisive figure in football), drafted Matt Corral, and is still trying to obtain Baker Mayfield (or Jimmy G). Come on man, we all knew that was a lie.

But the talk about Rhule is definitely true because...why, exactly?

Because he has made no moves to do anything. What he's saying and what he's done in regards to Rhule has been consistent.

I even remember the fan who said that Tepper asked the man what he was drinking when he was expressing or intimating that Tepper needs to fire Rhule before one of the last couple of games.

Yes, it was a lie.  That’s the point.  The junk they say to the media is just that.  Junk.

Wilks took a lot of leadership lessons under Ron and they have translated. Say what you want about Rivera but his presence was felt in the building in a positive way and Wilks follows that. Arizona royally fuged up firing Wilks and not firing Keim. Arians did what he does best and leaves when things are bad and left Steve with nothing in terms of roster and Keim makes Marty seem like a competent GM. Marty was just meh and unwise, Keim is a pompous child that put all the Arizona issues on Steve when he was mostly to blame.

OK.

For you and anyone that feels that strongly that Rhule will be fired, go put some legit money on it. Make some paper off of this line!

He literally created a staff this off-season that positions Tepper with the ability to get rid of Rhule and literally the entire Baylor entourage at any point in the season.

in addition to that, there has been a complete change in language about the future vision and team building over to Scott.   Not to mention the general appearance of a power structure change from Rhule to the GM.

name a coach who should have a hotter seat?  The Vegas line simply makes sense.

Outside of reducing Rhule's roster control and pushing for coaching changes, you mean?

Coaches and officials being talked up shortly before being fired is a long-standing tradition in the NFL.

    • He made some excellent throws but he always has made some excellent throws here and there. I don't know what to think, which is what I was apprehensive about. Is he going to have a decent downfield game? Because okay Legette dropped one, but someone was giving stats prior to the bye or during it where he had two downfield completions and one of them was the jump ball that is just launched and fingers are crossed that our guy comes down with it, and yesterday we saw that again. The Russell Wilson school of downfield passing.  I don't feel like that is sustainable, but at the same time you have to do Something to make the defense understand they have to defend that downfield throws. Like i said, confused.  I guess I'm going to review the game for myself and look closely at his mechanics and stuff because if he actually fixed that stuff it explains the better throws. And that has been my biggest objection, or what I see as the thing that makes or breaks his chances, that unorthodox dropback and tippy toe action and not having his feet set which limits velocity etc etc.
    • The negative Nancy in me (or objective?) says that they had a bye week to prepare for the Chiefs. However, it’s one thing to have a good plan and it’s another to actually execute it. For all the flack he’s received (from me as well), Bryce seemingly has put his head down and worked his tail off and his play is giving me hope. The first 18-game Bryce showed no progression whatsoever. He gets benched, comes back, and has shown steady progress every week he has started. I think I’m starting to see what the Bryce lovers and unconditional defenders were saying all along, and I hope he can show that on a regular basis for the sake of our QB1 position.
    • Yeah, we could still very well end up 4-13 with the 2nd pick.   I think LVR has the inside track for 1, with only a JAX team as a team on docket that could be beatable.
