Tannehill?

Not seeing all the hype people are automatically throwing at the next QB class. 194 pound Bryce Young, another Ohio State qb, then some other guys? Spencer Rattler was QB1 this time last year

Yeah, you really have to be wary of any Alabama or Ohio State QB, TBH.

But there are a lot of other potentially elite guys with exceptional potential. Tyler Van Dyke, KJ Jefferson, Phil Jurkovec, the Fresno St. kid, Anthony Richardson, Grayson McCall, etc, etc.

It definitely has a lot of potential, but will it be realized? I think right now it's largely regarded as a better class than the 2022 class was, even a year out. But that 2022 class took a pretty big tumble when the season was played.

Although I agree with most of what you're saying in general, Brady would have shown much more than Darnold did... Darnold just processes too slowly it seems, as even when he had time he was abysmal. I do think those stats are misleading since he was clearly always expecting pressure, but if he had more he would have shown it by now...

Brady hates gap pressure, but he is also the best at reading defensive alignment’s. So yeah, Brady would’ve put up better numbers. However, we had 3 QB’s forced out of the pocket consistently by pretty much vanilla defenses. Tanneyhill, definitely wouldn’t have made difference…

You have to be patient with Corral, not mess him up by throwing him to the wolves until he's ready. This is the way that it should be.

Actually, that's the old thinking.  Can you name a QB who has sat a year and then succeeded in recent history?  Burrow, Herbert, Murray, Jones all got thrown in immediately and succeeded.  I think QB's come to the NFL now better prepared.  Either they have it, or they don't.

The only QB who sat a year and succeeded in recent memory is Mahomes.  I'd argue he could easily have played his rookie year, but the Chiefs had Alex Smith coming off 12-4 and 10-6 seasons where they were top 10 scoring offenses.

I think that used to be true, but I'm not convinced it is still true.  I'm not saying we throw Corral out there week 1, I'm saying let him compete.  If he's our best QB, he plays week 1.  If the season is crap by week 8, he plays regardless.

The worst case scenario with Corral is we get to the end of the season with a non-playoff team and still don't know what we have.  It's Brady Christiansen all over again with the most important position on the team.

It’s difficult to gauge QB play behind, maybe the worst OL in Panthers history, especially the interior. Not even the GOAT, Tom Brady could’ve succeeded watching unblocked D-Linemen coming straight at you.

Tua did better with a worse OL. That gives you an idea of how bad Sam is.

I'm sure Breer is just speculating but Tannehill would be nice with this team.  Plenty of weapons and a decent defense.

The price tag would definitely be too much for us.

Breer: 'If Tannehill is the QB of the Panthers, They're Okay, Right? It's Not a Bad Roster' (msn.com)

This explains your unprovoked Tinderbox post in the football thread.

Tannehill is gutter trash.

Perhaps it is old thinking; a grey beard and receding hairline do belie my age...

Mahomes is the one who has been to multiple Super Bowls and the only one who has a ring upon his finger. He probably would've had two had he not had to play injured the second time. And, even though some here seem to be hanging onto mostly old reports, or those referencing sources, we've heard very positive things about Trey Lance's development. Don't be surprised if he becomes the second in recent history that succeeds.

I will tell you that every QB that you mentioned probably would have benefitted by sitting a year, but we'll never know. I don't believe that this will happen with Corral, but I also believe that some QBs have also been irreparably damaged by being thrust into situations before they're ready. That's not good either. There is a sweet spot.

All that being said, I've already said in this very thread that I'd play Corral when he is ready, whether it be September or December. I wouldn't rush him to play before he's comfortable with the offense just because Darnold can't. Moreover, Rhule recently said in so many words that everything post-snap is good, but pre-snap needs work. Corral even alluded to the fact that thinking (not his mentality) is slowing him down at this point. Treat Corral as though he's beginning a marathon, not a sprint.
