I agree that the odds of us going to the Superbowl are a tad short of possible, but I don't agree with bringing Mayfield or any QB in to replace our starting QB with very little, if any, upside. A significant upside yes, making a lateral QB move, to me, is pointless...

I think Mayfield helps sell Jerseys and maybe a few more tickets in 2022, but I agree, it is unlikely to translate into a significant difference in the win column.

Remember, this is a business though.  Generating revenue is key.  Winning is secondary.

Only trade for Baker I would be happy with is one in which Sam Darnold is going the other way. The salaries wash, so it's just my trash for yours. Both teams have incentive to make such a deal.

Problem with Baker is, he muddies the water after this year. What happens if he has a decent year? Complication. What if it looks like Corral is not ready? Complication. And don't try to sell me on the idea that Baker would be a mentor for Corral.

Please.

I disagree with pretty much everything you say, but this is Gospel.

I know the forum wasn't around in the old days, but I'd imagine it's always been this way. Every QB before Jake would probably have had his haters on here. And since Jake (who had his haters) it's just been a trainwreck on here (even with Cam). It'd be nice to see everyone on board with the QB just once. I guess that takes someone elite though, who wins year after year after year.

Thinking that Baker would have blown the doors off on the jets is laughable.

Whatever Baker was in Cleveland, he will be worse here.

Teddy Bridgewater had more yards passing in 2020 than Baker did during one of his so-called "good" years.

I mean, I don't know who would think Baker would have blown the doors off at the Jets, I assume you since you brought it up.

I would be shocked if Baker was better than his best season in Cleveland. But he really only needs to be fairly bad to be better than Darnold.

People forget that the "better than" bar is close to a franchise low for us.

The appeal of Baker is primarily:

1. Not Sam Darnold.

2. Keeps us from having to watch Sam Darnold.

3. Not a complete idiot on the field like Sam Darnold.

4. Should be pretty cheap.

5. Only on a one year deal.

If he's cheap, also that it is a low risk and low cost gamble on achieving something close to mediocrity.

Which, it's been 4 years since we even saw anything close to mediocre.

It's not lateral. He is significantly better than Darnold. Baker is a below average NFL starting QB which is considerably better than Sam Darnold.

This team makes it impossible to find any hope for the future.  I've lost all hope of having a team to cheer for and be proud of.  It's not even funny anymore.

stop putting so many eggs in a basket that you have zero control over

looking to the panthers to feel better about life is a poor stradegy

@rayzoris right the competition between Baker and Darnold is going to look like this:
