Hope we arent done yet. We still need some more help. The coaches and FO cant forget about the disappearing act that happened in the playoffs.

I think cap wise we’ll have to be about done unless they move Gardiner, Necas, and Bear.

We have just under $5M in cap space which will probably go to Necas. I suspect Bear is gone since he just filed for arbitration.

It appears that Canes are really going to give KK a shot to be the 2C. I think the only question mark is who is going to play beside Staal.

Right now I have it as:

Svech - Aho - Jarvis

Patches - KK - Turbo

Necas - Staal - Fast

Marty - Drury - Kase

Noesen

Pederson

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

Gardiner - Coghlan

Chatfield

Bear

Keane

Andersen

Raanta

Kochetkov

Obviously this is all subject to change based off of what the Canes decide to do with Necas, Gardiner, and Bear.

I think that spot is Noesen's to lose. He's 6'1" @ 205 and will match the size of that line well. He plays with some grit and doesn't mind getting physical on the forecheck.

And, not hearing any news on Nino might be a good thing for those of us who want him on the roster.

Could be. He’s a power forward with a good shot and could develop nicely on that line.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do with Necas, Bear, and Gardiner. Those are the only question marks I see. Theoretically they could move Marty for cap space but I don’t think Rod would let that happen.

Everyone else seems penciled in.

If Gardiner and Bear are pushed out then I could see the Canes bringing in another left handed defenseman as the remaining depth would be:

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

? - Coghlan

Chatfield

Keane

They could play Chatfield on his off side but Rod really doesn’t like to do that.

Additionally, who plays on Staal’s left? Theoretically Necas could play there but that might not be a good fit and he’s been a right wing throughout his career. Noesen was mentioned and he could be an option as well.

Still a lot of things to iron out.

What exactly is Gardiner's status with respect to the cap? Can we gain any cap space by letting him go?

They can split it up by buying him out. I think they’d gain like $1.5M this year, if they can find someone to take him by attaching like a 2nd round pick and a prospect then they’d alleviate the full cap hit.

I’m guessing everyone has accepted that Nino is gone. HF Boards are collectively in favor of what the Canes did yesterday and most agree we are a better team for it.

I’m guessing he’s gone but we need him back. He’s 1/3 of that Staal line, that was actually consistently the best line we have.

Adam Gold just said on 99.9 that he doesnt expect any of the former players to come back. However, most of Gold`s opinions are trash.

Gold is the most trash radio host   Him and his staff.   Canes maybe about to play in a cup or panthers in a super bowl and all they’ll figure out a way to talk about ACC basketball. That show is trash. Canes making incredible moves locally and they talk about MLB baseball.

that’s why I prefer the Mac attack or 610 the buzz and charlotte. They at least talk about our local sports teams 80% of the time.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
