Only person I can recall overcoming it was Orlando Brown but he was a consensus top 10 pick before his combine performance and his game tape clearly didn’t show any concerns. The big difference is that O Brown never appeared to show a problem in a game whereas the extra weight clearly showed that D Brown looked terrible at the Senior Bowl game without his built in huge advantage at Alabama. O Brown clearly was the best OL on his team and D Brown was the 5th best starter.

I think that is why so many of those Alabama OL(or just Alabama players in general) fail so often. It's easy to look amazing when you are 4 and 5 star recruits in the 2 and 3 deep of your depth chart.

I don't know if you listen to the 4 Man Rush podcasts but Matt Wahle(who may know a few things about being a successful NFL lineman) has said a few times that being way overweight coming into the NFL is a HUGE red flag. You should already have had the discipline and work ethic to make that not be an issue. If it is, you aren't doing something right.

I tend to agree with him. That's something you should have been able to clean up in college.

The only 4 man rush I listened to was the one you posted before. It was around 1:08 long and he also laughed about spending a pick at long snapper. Hes right as rain, you are professional now, your body is your job now. Old days, players used TC to get back in shape. Now you stay in shape year round and first OTAs you should be ready to play, not getting ready.

At one point I was in strength sports and had some friends across the carolinas. Ive heard through 4th hand grape vines, Whale was a workout machine and loved the weight room. I have not heard one bread crumb about any player beasting in the weight room since Rhule was hired.

I haven’t seen any of that, but if true he likely won’t be on the team and that’d be really frustrating knowing we passed on Trey Smith twice for a project and a long snapper. Our OL would be set right now for all 5 spots with quality players.

Reminds me of Little. After watching the OL drills that combine, he was literally the only OL that I didn’t want unless maybe he’s your project 6th/7th rounder. He was like the antithesis of fluid when compared to Burns in the drill at the same combine. Brown gave me the same feeling as Little just at the Senior Bowl. It was like watching a traffic cone with DL (none of them stars) running around him like he couldn’t move and he couldn’t. Last OL that I wanted.

There was a hope he might have worked hard, but that’s not good at all if he’s gained more weight.

I still member the draft thread, you, I, and others were all over trey smith even with knowing the blood clots deal. I didnt mind the Brown pick given it was a late 6th and they had the guy during senior bowl. I just wished he took his first NFL off-season serious enough to report in better shape.

Main reason is, personally wanted colbert at the LG so Icky can have a young proven vet to grow with. Boz at C, motown at RT, and _______ at RG. I thought brown could fill it......

Man, he does look extra big. I was upset we passed on Smith for Brown because Brown looked that bad at the Senior Bowl. Then I was OK because we had another chance and welp…

Hes the only OLmen with a jersey that doesnt cover his stomach. Daley is wearing white long sleeves and looking fit...... Brown is in lumberjack grey black long sleeve looking like a snowman.

Props to the others.

I thought he was well worth the risk in the 6th round, but yeah... it takes some significant red flags for a guy who was that dominant at the highest level of college football to be available in the 6th round.

It is an assumption BC at LG is an improvement. Honestly, a very big one.

My guess is that he is not going to be ready to make that transition as a starter for 2022. I still think he ends up being the top bench option.

Jordan or Elflein at LG?

Yeah, I mean if he never plays another down for us, it was still a good gamble in the 6th.

Yep. I don’t believe there’s anyone atop the leaderboard yet. I think Iky, Bozeman, Corbett and Moton are locks or almost locks to the point where, outside of injury, it would be extremely disappointing if all 4 aren’t starting week 1. The fifth starter is really a battle. That’s why I’m really hoping Mays takes it as he’s got the most potential IMHO to become Norwell part deux. Not saying he will step up but that based on ceilings, I hope he does. Brady is probably a hair behind in that maybe with a focused off-season he could develop but he didn’t look great inside last year. Again, wasn’t his spot in college so not surprising year 1.

It would be nice to see Brady pan out but I am not hopeful about it.

I wouldn't be shocked if his role is ultimately as a quality backup swing tackle. And honestly? That's worth a 3rd round pick IMO. God knows this fanbase should well understand the need for quality OT play with some serviceable depth on the roster. I'm just not sold on him transitioning to OG but we'll see. His skill set just seems better suited at OT even though his height/weight/length measurables scream OG.

If he can be a solid backup tackle, that 3rd isn't a great pick but also not a bad pick. About average.

I can be okay with that result.

It's interesting that evidently we also had him doing some work at center in OTAs. I think we're going to give the guy every opportunity to either be a starter or maybe be treated as the 6th man of the OL. Have him ready to plug in at any spot on the event that someone goes down with an injury that will keep them out for significant time. I don't think he'd be the primary backup at every spot on game days but have him ready to go after a week of practice to prepare.
