RALEIGH, NC. - The Carolina Hurricanes look to continue their perfect postseason on home ice Friday, aiming to take a 2-0 series lead over the New York Rangers.

When: Friday, May 20, 8 p.m. EST

Watch: ESPN

Listen: 99.9 The Fan, Hurricanes.com/Listen, Hurricanes App

SERIES RECAPS:

  • Game One: Sebastian Aho ties the game with 2:23 to go in regulation, Ian Cole wins it just 3:12 into the extra frame for Carolina.

THE QUICK HITS:

Special Start Time: Please be aware of tonight's special 8 p.m. EST puck drop.

Ready To Go On Time: Carolina struggled through the first 40 minutes of Wednesday's Game One, with players and coaches citing it as a bit of them coming out of the gate flat and a bit of New York doing strong things. Can the Canes turn the table for Game Two? They are 3-0 this postseason when leading after the first.

Runnin' With Rants: After an early turnover led to an odd-man rush that New York capitalized on, Antti Raanta shut the door for the remaining 56:05 (including overtime). The veteran netminder finished with 27 saves on 28 shots, earning his fourth win of the playoffs in which he has allowed two goals or fewer.

Ian Cole, Baby: Ian Cole had just two goals during the regular season and he added his third of the season in overtime Wednesday. It was his 104th posteason game and just his second career goal in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as well.

Keeping It Clean: Special teams played a big part in almost every contest during the Canes seven-game opening round win against Boston. Wednesday night there was just two penalties, both coming just 27 seconds apart during the first period. This is especially of note considering the Rangers power play finished in the top five during the regular season and has been one of the most successful thus far in the playoffs as well. However, the Carolina penalty kill finished atop the league after 82 games, too.

Staal's Master Class: Jordan Staal's line was responsible for defening the Rangers top line of Mika Zibanejad, Chris Kreider and Frank Vatrano Wednesday night and it is expected that will once again be the case this evening. The trio finished as the three forwards with the most ice time for New York in the contest, but managed only six shots on goal in just under 20 minutes of play.

On The Other Side: Goaltender Igor Shesterkin was strong once again for New York to start the series. Of the two goals that beat him, one came on a solo effort by Sebastian Aho and the other deflected off of his defenseman's stick and in. His night concluded with 24 stops on 26 shots, in total.

ESPN Broadcast: Sean McDonough, Ray Ferraro and Emily Kaplan will be the broadcast talent for tonight's ESPN telecast. They will have the first four games of the series.

Arrive Early!: Please be aware starting on Friday, the "Got to Be NC festival" is going on at the fairgrounds and traffic will be very heavy in the area during ingress. Allow yourself a few extra minutes.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

What Are We Wearing?: The Canes will be wearing black for every home game in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

More Milestones: Sebastian Aho is one goal shy of passing Kevin Dineen to move into a tie for the second-most goals in franchise playoff history. He is also two assists shy of passing Ron Francis for the most assists in franchise playoff history.

Win the day one game at a time, as a fan though I have to be excited about the prospect of having home ice every round, Florida will likely be knocked out and the Blues although it's a 1-1 series are showing the Avalanche were probably over rated during the regular season and the first round sweeping Nashville minus Saros is sweeping a bottom 5 team. I want The Lightning in round 3.....  This seasons Canes are much better (and healthier than last years) The Lightning knocking down the two biggest playoff chokers of the 2000s in rounds one and two shouldn't come as a surprise, I promise you we will come with the grit.

I'm sitting in DFW Airport waiting on my 4-hour delayed flight to San Diego.

Should be in SD by the first intermission. As with all games, I'd like to see 2 in the first and let the D take over. They'll get desperate, make a mistake and Carolina will add a goal or 2.

Guess I'm lucky. My wife picked up the phone a few months ago and bought season tickets for 22-23.
