Russell would likely have been successful anywhere he was given a chance to start but he wouldn't be a Super Bowl champion without those other elements.

Even the greatest of QB's isn't gonna drag a team to but so much success. Look at Brady in Tampa. He plopped into a ready-made team to get his last title. That team was stacked with talent. Stafford and the Rams.

This roster is pretty thin on talent and VERY thin on experience. So the ceiling is naturally going to be very low.

Yeah, we are not a QB away.

At this pace, it will take rule 5 years just to get an 9-8 team. If he’s lucky.

Yeah, a lot of things have to go our way for this turnaround, even with competent FO and HC moves.

I don't think most fans appreciated how bad our roster was after the 2019 purge. Truthfully, it's debatable how much it has improved since then. We really need these 2020-2022 guys to be good. Not just the first round guys. We need some of these other picks to pan out, as well. Otherwise this will be a very, very bad team.

QB play wasn’t the worst problem the last two years. Joe Brady wasn’t ready for prime time. We had a terrible O Line and CMC didn’t even play half a year between both combined. The QBs we fielded weren’t world beaters but they for damn sure weren’t set up for success.

Teddy largely was.  He just refused to make the throws he needed to.  O still has problems but Teddy not pulling the trigger on plays that existed was the primary problem that year on O.

2020 and 2021 IMO can't be lumped as the same messes/problems.

hope to split w/ Atl and NO.  That gives you 2 wins.

Detriot.  That gives you 3 wins.

Then hope you pull 3 wins of these 4 - NY, Sea, AZ, Pitt.  That gives you 6.

But that's why the Vegas line is so good.  Because of that last group of 4 teams.  By taking the 6 wins you are betting you win most of the coin flip/winnable games.

Everyone else is just flat out better than us pending injuries don't alter who they are.   And that assumes Watson starts in Clev week 1.

but yeah the opening 8 games are crucial for Matt Rhule and there isn't a lot of room for error on the couple winnable games there.

We will inexplicably beat AZ. Weird things happen when we play them. Sea, NYG, and Pitt are all up in the air but none of those QBs scare you. All those teams are mentally counting our game as a W.

I don't think six wins will be enough to save Rhule's job.

Not directly related, but a little perspective...

Super Bowl victories are so hard to come by.  That's why the NE dynasty was so impressive.  I think Tomlin is the only active head coach with more than one Super Bowl victory (as head coach) outside of Bill.

A lot of IF’s have to become positives for us to be competitive. Pretty sure Sam isn’t going to lead us anywhere and Matt is still raw. With decent play at QB and our D playing like it’s capable of we could be good.

Thankfully, we are still very young as a team. So we do have some time to find that QB. If it is not Corral, then swing away next year.

IMO, as soon as Matt can master the playbook. He starts. Then let the chips fall where they may.

    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
