Charlotte “unlikely” to contribute taxpayer money for new Panthers headquarters

Ahhhh. This is Teppers hustle. The reality is the Rock Hill project will ultimately be completed. This little work stoppage will net Tepper 2 positive outcomes.

1. rock hill local and state government will sweeten the deal. Tepper will get his practice facility completed and with a better deal than originally agreed upon.

2. This is most important. The rock hill situation is an indirect message to Charlotte government, you either give Tepper public dollars to build his new stadium or deal with real possibility of losing the team. Tepper is a greedy MoFo and operates without boundaries.

I agree and it is certainly not a done deal overall but it's hard to listen to him talk about a new stadium and he still hasn't got his HQ done as a fan.

It's absolutely better for Tepper because it's just more leverage to pull out of the area if sides don't start doing what he needs. If Rock Hill facilities were open then we would be talking where in the local area and not still possible relocation overall. I 100% agree on the last part, no illusions.

Just not a fan of publicly overspending to the wealthiest, I get and can support deal sweeteners as a basic part of business but fug beyond that. Too many needy people out there to keep helping those that are way beyond helping themselves. That poo is just wealth consolidation in the form of corporate welfare.

The 3000 lb elephant in the room so to speak, is the worn out threat of moving. The problem with that is there are few to places left to "run to" that are not already suffering from budget shortfalls. Translation : no tax money. And forget San Antonio or Austin...like the Jerry Jones/Janice McNair cabal is going to let that happen. Gillette Wyoming? Omaha Nebraska? Roswell New Mexico? The Charlotte TV market is larger than roughly a dozen markets with existing NFL teams  Sorry haters, the Carolinas are "stuck" with the Panthers.

If Tepper wants to move this team and needs help packing his poo, I can be available.

The Panthers, BofA stadium is a private/public partnership. We as a community made an agreement to have and promote and love this team worldwide.

It's bigger than Tepper. He feels that. We in the Charlotte community have a responsibility to our teams we've built. They're our face in the worlwide market.

That LaMelo jersey is everywhere. Cam was selling jerseys for a while. For Charlotte to continue to be a top city in the nation it's a must. And by design they enrich the community in other ways.

It's a win, win. I don't have a problem with tax dollars that create income in and around that stadium and the region for the Panthers, hotels, restaurants, medium, small business.

It's a partnership. That's why we can raise heck like we do, and it matters.

Yeah, spending TONS of public dollars to create some primarily slave wage level service industry jobs is a great investment.

Sports fans way overestimate the impact of sports teams on the local economy. Industries that create good paying jobs don't give AF about the local sports teams. The vast majority of the folks looking to relocate don't give AF about the local sport teams. It's icing on the cake.

There's been study after study that show that sports teams add at a negligible degree to local economies and that public funds used for stadiums and whatnot never see the return in investment.

Yep. The "trickle down" just never happens. Most of the "good" jobs crested are temporary related to the construction. The long lasting jobs are primarily all in the low paying service jobs area. It's just another handout to the wealthy. The folks who benefit are the team owners and owners of the surrounding restaurants, hotels, apartments, etc. The rest of the surrounding community sees minimal economic benefit. Hell, you could argue that the resulting likely increase in local cost of living is a net negative for much of the surrounding community.

Yep. It's like my "lol" reply to the dude that called it socialism when "The government favoring one business over another via tax breaks". Like, I know it's en vogue to call everything that you don't like socialism but, like, you just look like an idiot. The term he's looking for is Crony Capitalism.

There certainly is a nice overflow into the hospitality industry, hotels and some recoup of tax money in the process but it's not like most of those jobs are more than seasonal, part time and low wages that are directly tied to the Panther's game day experience.

IDK what the correct formula would be to entice business but without being a deals that is just robbing the taxpayers. Hey maybe a sweet deal with some profit kickback to the tax system...lol JK that would never happen. Too bad the cities can't get an investment angle on these deals.

Yeah, it's basically like 20-25 days temp work a year if you work like every game and concert. Long read but well written experience

There is nothing more American than a filthy rich white guy shaking down a city struggling to pay front line workers, teachers, and police/fire depts to build an obscene and excessive mega stadium for his sports team.  Disgusting
