Looking back would you rather have Watson and a vet LT or Icky/Corral

If Corral shines, I could see it. If the college season goes like it should, you are talking a 3 first round picks and maybe a day 2 pick or 2 for a top 2 pick. That’s 3-4 impact starters to add to Corral if he shines.

If Corral looks OK like say BC did then an elite level talent QB is a no brainer just like Iky was a no brainer pick at LT. Now if BC played like Slater at LT, would you have traded back? Imagine Iky was the only top LT left and had a lot of interest. I have no idea if Corral even has it in him, but if we have threads on Phil Snow as interim head coach we can conjecture on what if Corral plays like Russel Wilson in limited action (Sam goes 0fer) with a terrible D such that we get a top 2 pick.

I’m a big Corral guy but I just have a hard time seeing him play pretty good football and us still finishing with a top 2 pick. We’ve got a roster that ON PAPER is pretty dang solid minus the QB. We do have an absolutely brutal schedule but I think if we even have average qb play we’re a 7/8 win team. If we had average qb play last year we might have sniffed a wildcard imo.

It was a pretty damned good draft considering the circumstances. We got my top two players notwithstanding that we began day two as simply spectators. Watching the QBs slide was ironically a beautiful thing for me as a Corral fan. That's why I stayed up even as the night was almost ending. I knew we wanted Corral, and we got him on the cheap as far as I'm concerned. I'm still of the opinion that folks don't realize what we have, and the beauty is that we didn't have to grossly overpay for it like we would've had for Watson and a proven vet.

Building from the draft is the better way, especially when you're essentially broken financially and broken-spirited.

Man, I know Watson would have balled in Carolina. I wish it would’ve worked out to where we got him. So many fans would’ve been onboard.

Oh well.

The fact that we would have had to given up so much to get him is what bothered me the most. It would have crippled the team for years and he would have had to be better than peak Cam to overcome that.....which he definitely isn't.

Finding decent vet LT’s in FA is pretty rare and very expensive. Same goes for a QB like Watson. That reason alone makes me prefer drafting Ickey and Corral. If you are cap strapped and don’t have high draft picks, you have a very small chance at a complete team. Complete teams can compete for a SB. Besides, no one knows if Watson will even play this year.

The biggest question with Watson no matter how you felt about acquiring him was what awaited down the line. Considering Watson's new contract and the most guaranteed money in league history by a wide margin I am just fine with this route. If need be we can weigh the value of next years rookie QB class too.

If I knew we'd get from the draft the #1 offensive player  ( at LT no less) and our OC's #1 rated QB, I would have never cheered for Watson.  This is so much better.  We were very lucky things fell the way they did without a 2nd or 3rd.  Tip of the hat to Fitterer and co.  Great job.

    • I think a lot of wrs are going to go in the second round before we pick.  There are a lot of wr needy teams.  I think there will be a big run on them in the late 30s and 40s.
    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
