if he's affordable and we've got the cash, why not?

still would prefer we focus on getting some beef in the middle of the DL to help shut down run games.

Totally agree.  It would be nice if that beef could collapse the pocket as well.

I posted earlier in the offseason after we lost Reddick that he would be ideal.

Good to hear he's interested, but I have a feeling we're not or there would have already been rumors of talks or interest on both sides prior to this.  No he didn't become the next Peppers, but he's very good and as others have said, great against the run.  It would be nice to finally have one side of the line stout against the run and hopefully Burns continues to develop in that aspect so we don't have to get cute and shift personnel on any given down.

I hope the interest is mutual and we get him.

Thehe Panthers have the most cap space in the NFL at approximately $30.1 million and would be able to sign Clowney if they are interested.

If Clowney could be signed to a team friendly contract it would be  a welcomed addition to the Panthers defense that just lost its leading sack leader from a year ago.

He is a three-time Pro Bowler fresh off a 2021 campaign where he totaled 9.0 sacks, 19 quarterback hits and 11 tackles for a loss over 14 outings. Whats not to like?

Clowney is one of the most over hyped, over rated NFL prospects and players the past twenty years if not of all time. Sort of like Zion in a way that they developed this like cult following and got clicks thru social media.

Where he attended high school or college has absolutely nothing to do with this. He is a JAG and would bring nothing to the team.

Literally such a bad take lmfao. With your logic Burns was a JAG last year as they had the same amount of sacks while Clowney is also a great run defender. Man if anything Clowney is underrated nowadays. Would be a great signing bring ‘em home!

Sort of like Zion? lmao

Zion averaged 27/9 in his first year playing with incredible efficiency and was already the best finisher around the rim in the NBA.

If Zion bust out of the league it'll be because of his health, not because he was "overrated"

You don't know what the hell you're talking about.

    • I don't get the Hunter hate. Just imagine his ceiling if he stopped trying to be this 2way freak and focused on one side of the ball
    • 100%.  You have to play the cards that are dealt.  Not the cards you wish were dealt.
    • I'd say its definitely going to be addressed this off-season.  We went into the last draft with a roster of RBs including:  Chubba, Blackshear, and Miles Sanders. We picked Jonathan Brooks in the second and still signed Rashaad Penny afterwards.  Fast forward....One turned into a top 10 back, 1 is injured/out for most if not all the '25 season, 1 retired, 1 will either take a huge paycut or be cut, and the last is a restricted free agent. We brought in Mike Boone as well. Add him to the free agent list also.  We need a physical option.    Which qualifies:  Ashton Jeanty(Boise St): Overall ranked Top 10. Almost 2k yards after contact, 28 tds. Would take our first rounder. My money would be on an NFC East team selecting him. (97.2 PFF run grade) - 121 forced missed tackles.  Omarion Hampton(UNC): Ranked everywhere from 20 - 59 overall. Consensus #2 back after Jeanty. He'll be a second rounder. 1,222 Yards after contact w/ 15 tds.  (90.5 PFF run grade) - 72 forced missed Tackles Kaleb Johnson(Iowa): Ranked from 38 - 69 depending on which media outlet you prefer but generally #3. 2nd/3rd possibly. 1,060 Yards after contact w/ 21 tds.(86.7 PFF run grade)- 66 forced missed tackles Cam Skattebo: Ranked from the 50's - 104. Every mock I do he ends up BPA at some point. 969 Yards after contact w/ 17 tds(92 PFF Run Grade). Probably the best receiving back of the group. 81 forced missed tackles.  If the '24 and '25 draft classes were combined, IMO the rankings would be, in order: Jeanty, Hampton, Brooks, Johnson, Skattebo. I wouldn't take one high but I'd take one for Chubba and Brooks insurance.
