West Coast Offense???

I've been confused on this for awhile. I keep hearing dump-offs and short routes associated with this offense but I'm still unsure of its aspects. What is the WCO is and how does it work? What are its benefits, drawbacks, and what kind of personnel do you need to run it? And would anyone want to see it run here?

Well Im not an expert on what it is but I can give you some points to it. There are some WCO that are very Pass oriented and thats where you get the short dump off passes and short crossing routes. Then you have a run heavy style like was used in Denver. Most passes are not vertical but slants and crossing routes. It was invented to counter the zone blitz that Pittsburgh was using. Im sure there's more but that's as much as I know.

I think it's the other way around actually... the zone blitz was a counter to the WCO. Dropping linemen into zones that would otherwise be vacant.

I like the WCO. We would actually do very well in a fairly modern, run balanced WCO.

May be... I will have to google that LOL.

ahhhh it was to counter the run-and-shoot offense.
