Was Matt Corral the Target or a Panic Pick?

I agree. I think Corral was the target all along. Howell was probably option B. It was a bold strategy to wait it out after the qb's didn't start flying off the board, which I am thrilled that it played out like it did. 

When it got to the 3rd round it became too risky to think they could wait until the 4th. I think they fully expected to have to give up more to get a shot at any of them like the rest of us.

I just hope that they picked the right kid to develop. But in any case it's not a back breaker if its not. I still hope the take a shot at one in the next draft. I think they do no matter what Corral does this season.

I don’t understand how it could be a panic pick. We needed to address the QB position regardless because Walker is not an NFL quality player.

Panic would have been trading for Mayfield, regardless of who we selected, this is just trading up to fill a need.

Didn't even consider us going this way, but I'm intrigued. Really intrigued.

He has some traits that could really help us. That trigger-quick release will be an improvement if he can read pro defenses. His penchant for running increases our attack potentials greatly.

He's got a chip on his shoulder with something to prove. That's not always a bad thing.

And, apparently, he isn't a big fan of mouthy rich kids who won't work for it. That could pay dividends in getting a team to work harder.

This should be interesting.

I think Willis was the target of the trade up talk.  When they said that about abs started flying off the board it sounds like guys we liked so we had to get one.

Agree that this draft so far is a dream scenario. No one knows if Corral is the answer but the key is not jeopardizing  the team's future if you are wrong. Of course we hope he is awesome and our future but the real smart think is getting great value at a very reasonable cost. There is no reason we can't swing for the fences again next year if we suck this year. Then we could have our starter and backup both on rookie contracts.  But like usual I am letting my natural optimism start to run.  I really think that barring strings of injuries we will be a contender and a tough out this year. So it might take some real draft juice to move up next year if those guys are really as good as the hype. Wouldn't want to get into the whole 3 1sts to move us a half dozen spots. Not when we got Corral for essentially a high third when you factor in our low 4th and our third next year which isn't worth as much as a third in this draft because it is a future pick.

Taking a QB in the first or trading into the second would have been a panic move. I think this was a solid move.

Fitterer said it all along. There were 2 folks he liked and it was seeing what it would cost to get that person. Willis went before he could make a deal that would have kept our next year 1st or 2nd.  He said he kept from making a deal because he was relying on his board of what other teams were going to do and hoping that no one was going to pick Corral until he could use his 3rd instead of his 1st or 2nd. When New England agreed we made the deal I suspect worrying about who might snatch him from us.

I agree. But I don't think corral was the original target. I think they had a similar grade on Pickett Willis ridder and corral. Once ridder went off the board the pressure was on go grab one of the other 2.  Which one they had rated higher I don't know if we will ever know.

Maybe we will get a peak at their board like last season with the confidential web series.

Coral was probably the target all along he wants a Russel Wilson clone.

I don't buy boston butt until it's on sale. We got the qb we wanted when we got a good price.

This was a Tepper pick. Had little to nothing to do with the front office.

Tepper has ties to Corral and wanted him as the franchise QB.
