Wolfpack/Tar Heels, Panthers/Dolphins

Just got back from the State game, and I also went to the recent Panthers game versus the Dolphins. I have to say, college fans are about 10 times louder and more spirited than Panthers fans. I thought this was because I had always sat in the student sections for games at State, but since I've graduated I've had to sit with the families/general public and people still cheer on every play.

I was up in the nosebleeds at the Panthers game and I remember on a critical 3rd down late in the fourth quarter after we had just scored and had all the momentum in our favor people were sitting down. I was standing yelling as loud as I could to distract the opposing offense like any good football fan. Henne promptly completed a long pass on that down.

Same situation at the State game today, critical third late in the 4th and everyone was standing up screaming as loud as they could.

Granted it was a rivalry game, but still, people at the Panthers game really seemed to not care when compared to all the State games I've been to. I've been to a handful of Panthers games in the past and have always been unimpressed with the excitement of the fan base.

Just really disappointing, because I honestly believe the fans played a part in our win today, and I feel like we could have done a better job of supporting the Panthers, and pumping them up last Thursday.

What are you talking about, we lost by one today.

I'm a State fan, we won by one from my perspective. I was talking about our "home field advantage."

Also, I realize I'm beating a dead horse with this thread, I'm just venting.

But honestly, it's really annoying when I'm at a Panthers game and it seems like half the people there are fans of the opposing team from a city close to 1000 miles away. I guess it's a product of lots of people moving to Raleigh, Charlotte and other NC cities.

NC has some of the most loyal/rowdy fans; State, UNC, Duke, ECU. Yet the Panthers have one of the more subdued fan bases. I just don't get it.

Stupid thread. Who has the most supportive fans in football? Maybe the Packers or Steelers? You could go to an average college football team's home game anywhere in this country and people are going to be more into it than they would the NFL game, even the NFL stadiums with the loudest fans. It's just the nature of college sports vs. pro sports.

Two words -- Jerry Richardson. He wants a very tame fan base and he gradually becomes more strict the older he gets...i.e. the lecture prior to each game from the Chief of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police about being arrested for profane language around children.

I was recently sent a questionare via the internet about my thoughts as a PSL owner. I wrote a short story about how ridiculous the rules have become. Needless to say, I haven't heard back from them even though I ranked portions of the survey as very poor.

As greatful as I am that Jerry brought us the Panthers, I'm just as pissed that I have to feel shackled from having a really good time; fearing the SS guards (A.K.A. stadium security) may remove me.

I wouldn't surprise me if alcohol isn't somehow restricted in the near future.

#1 - GO PACK !!! There are sad Tarholes tonight everywhere - ha, ha

#2 - talking about the fan noise, you must not have been at the Tampa Bay MNF game last year. The excitement was absolutely electric !!! In my section, 540, no one even sat down until middle of the 2nd qtr - that WAS special ... have never seen anything like that one ... including many games at Carter-Finley, several at ECU and a couple at the Chapel Hole

PS - get out of the nosebleed seats - those are quite often infiltrated with 'alien' fans
