As to why someone would do that...two reasons. 1) they're a dick or 2) they think they're special for being the first to break something but the truth is no one cares that you broke the news ever. There is nothing special about being the first to break news. Nothing.

There are some people I can actually picture trying to impress someone by talking about how they broke news on the internet or how "Yeah, I massively trolled this guy!"

It’s true, you can look up the numbers. If you’re talking about it actually happening, yeah I’d be surprised. It would fit with the earlier report of them wanting to move up though.
