they are a better team, I agree. But what does that have to do with what they traded to get Lance? He's not the reason they are the better team. Maybe I'm missing something.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LancTr00.htm

7td 2 ints..

Plus they had a competent starter who carried them 2 1 game of a superbowl appearance..

It's the best of both worlds.. Being competitive in the present while securing the future..

Pat Mahomes and Aaron Rodgers sat their 1st season.. How did that workout??

What is your angle here??

Lance would be the cleaaar 1st overall in this non-cream draft, in fact about 20 players form last year would be picked before anyone in this years.

For sure Id take Lance over not having a first this year.

Eeehhh, I don't know about that.

A lot of the talk about Lance right now is that he's still "a year away from being a year away".

He could still pan out, but even if he does it's likely to be via a lot longer path than they were expecting to have to walk when they took him.

Not defensing us missing out on picking a QB, but last year's draft class is not shaping up well. You can usually still see the talent/leadership through the poor team around them but Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Fields, Jones all have a ways to go.  And honestly, by years end, Mills looked the most polished of the bunch who wasn't necessarily on a good team or in a winning situation.  Texans have more holes than Bushwood Country Club.

Doesn't mean the perceived bad class will be the inverse, but it just shows how situational and much of a toss-up it can be.

I admit I was driving the Lance spaceship, I still believe BY FAR he would be the 1st pick. I mean Kyle is one of smartest O-minded coaches out there and he picked Trey to run the show whenevar jimmyg is traded/cut..

We seriously have let Cam, Andrew and a few other QBS frame our view of rookie QBS.. It usually takes more then a year to judge QBS drafted high going to horrible teams right??

You can make a case thjat drafting Jordan Love gave Arod the means to win a MVP..... same type of case could be made about Jimmyg lance.....

Jimmy G wasn't really that good last year.  Also very much disagree that 20 prosects would go last year before any this year.  Last year had 15-20ish high end first rounders.  And you only had like Chase, Waddle, Surtain, Slater, & Parsons perform at or above their projections.

This year has like 8-9 before a drop but none are QBs.   I'd take Wilson and Jameson W. over every WR but Chase and maybe Waddle (and that's arguable because all 4 are very close IMO).

Aiden, Neal, Wilson, Sauce, Stingley, Thib, Jameson, Johnson Jr. all very high end talent.

Unsure how I would stack Sauce and Stingley versus Surtain and Horn but Stingley has been a top name in football for like 2 years plus.  Considered one of the bet CB prospects in some time barring that injury.

Ickey and Cross are very much ahead of that Darrisaw/V-T/Leatherwood tier.  We know how Slater has worked out, but Cross and Ickey would probably be considered right around or ahead of him prospect wise.  Neal possibly ahead of Sewell. Honestly, after Pick 13 (Slater) and Jones (who let's be real, is propped up by the NE system), that First Round looks bad and the QBs aren't looking hot either.

There was really like 12-15 legit talent in the top of 2021.

Its about 20, all the early WRs and QBs(could even include Davis Mills(i would)) Sewell, Pitts, Horn, Surtian, Parsons, the MLBs etc are allll better than the 2022 players. Slater is debatable, same for a few others JPhillips could be the best edge in this draft. Both RBS Harris and Eti are better than ANY RB in this class, in fact no one even talks about them cause they are soo poorly thought of.

Its one of those 20/20 deals, just a weak cream class and 100% would rather have Trey Lance than any player in this draft.

Personally if had the 1st, Id take Sauce. Hes just the best form this group. A part due to the increase in WR value. CB can stop QBs and WRs, Sauce it is......hard for a CB to go first. I would, no question.

Bills were being rebuilt and yeah, Allen took a year.  Fair comp with him.

It's very team dependent.  Will be interesting to see how those guys pan out.

Jmo..

Before Cam nobody expected a QB to carry a obviously bad team in his 1st season even in the 2nd season... After Cam it seem like ppl are expecting it more and I don't know why..

Aaron Nagler of CheeseheadTV reports the Packers are targeting Darren Waller in a trade with the Raiders.

Take this with a gigantic grain of salt, but Nagler has been covering the Packers for a very long time. Waller turns 30 in September and has two years left on his contract, but he's coming off an injury-plagued down season that saw him miss six games en route to a 55-665-2 receiving line where he appeared to take more of a back seat to Hunter Renfrow. The Raiders have now added target-dominator Davante Adams, and the word from Nagler is the Packers and Raiders discussed Waller as part of that Adams trade, but league rules prohibited Waller's inclusion because a franchise-tagged player (Adams) can't be traded for a non-tagged player like Waller. Las Vegas is scheduled to make its first pick in this week's draft at No. 86. Flipping Waller to a starved-for-pass-catchers team like Green Bay in exchange for a high pick would make sense on the surface.

To be fair, there's also been random guys thrown to the wolves who had fared well in the 2010s that weren't even first rounders that I'd take right now.

I.E. - Wilson, Cousins, Tannehill, Dak, Hurts, Minshew faired well almost immediately in their careers.    Let us not forget Jerry Jones was pounding the table for Connor Cook and it's only because the Raiders took him that they "settled" for Dak lol.  And then there's the 1st rounders like Herbert, Tua (was aight), Watson, Derek Carr, Mitch T, Daniel Jones, whether rookie one-hit campaigns or not, showed well and were successful to a degree.

But you are right in that top-15ish range.  Minus Cam, Luck, Wentz, Goff (the latter twos SB runs more courtesy of team), a lot aren't ready. But a lot of those guys end up simply never even being "developed" because they bust in development.  Jimmy "developed" behind the best of them and he honestly has never looked that good. It takes a combo of the right team with the right guy.

This draft is a lot like Cam's, but hoping it doesn't have as much crazy reaches.  Gabbert, Locker, Ponder, all top-12.  Yikes. Still remember people thinking Locker was this sensational shorter guy.  But those three didn't even have good college stats., it was almost worse than this one in many respects minus Cam as the outlier.  We lucked the f out.   I'd gladly take Willis, Howell and Ridder over Locker and Ponder.

I still feel you can see "it" pretty early regardless of the team.  Mahomes and Allen had their moments where they flashed while they were still putting it all together.  To be honest, I saw a deer in the headlights with Trevor that I was NOT expecting.  I expected it from Lance and Wilson but not Trevor, even considering the team around him.

I'd skimmed most of this but from what I read..

Wilson was carried by a defense his 1st few years..

Cousin didn't start until his 4th season after Robert Griffin was hurt..

Dak, Hurts, didn't start day 1..

But I've said a few other QBS have had success but the history of the league usually shows high  QBS drafted to bad teams don't come in and be good in year 1..

And I don't understand why that expectation has changed..

Peyton was horrible his 1st season and it was expected..

    • The agenda was building around Bryce.  2 WR, 3 olinemen, TE, and a potentially elite RB.  I stood up for Bryce all last year because I didn't think you could evaluate him properly with what we had last year in coaching, play calling and personal.  Bryce was the 2nd least pressured QB in the last 2 weeks because of the money Morgan spent on the line.  Despite Bryce looking horrible I'd say Morgan has had an exceptional beginning as GM. Here some more things I liked. Trevin Wallace looked like a banger in preseason.  Resigned Brown.  Gave Horn his 5th year option and Horn is playing very well. *Flipped a 7th round pick for a starting CB in Michael Jackson who has also played well. Filled a depleted roster with solid vets and if you really look at the cap this is a 2 year play.  Almost everyone except the 2 elite guards signed a 2 year deal. Did not pay Stephen Gilmore 10 million for one season. *Got the 0-2 Rams 2nd pick next year. Set a culture and tone of the type of players we want.  *Dawgs. *Elite GM moves.
