Panthers meet with Sam Howell

I can't disagree.  I'll just say he was a mid-third round rookie playing one of the most difficult and important positions on the football field.  I think he got a little banged up in there at some point as well.  There was an abundance of caution, but I don't believe malice or incompetence.  In the end, he got the live experience and they got the tape to evaluate.

Having said that, I'm glad they got Campen to develop these guys, as well as signing a couple other guards that seem to know their business.  I believe christensen will flourish this year with a better cast around him.

Brown may take longer.  He may sit another year, then slide into Bozeman or Elflein's spot in 2023.

The best thing they can do is let Campen make the call.  He knows OL.  I think having a 3rd round rookie jump around different spots of the OL was a little reckless in his development.  Had they let him have reps and stay at LT the whole season we would probably have a lot more of these questions answered.  I feel way more comfortable with Campen on this staff.

Agreed. Not sure what that guy saw. However, games that late in the season need to be taken with a grain of salt.

True.  That's why I don't think we will pass on an elite talent like Neal or Icky even if they think Brady looked solid.  LT is a premium position, possibly the most important outside of QB and we have needed one for a while now.

If the Panthers are legitimately looking at Baker Mayfield they can save themselves a lot of heartburn by just trading down and picking Howell. He’s effectively the same player as Mayfield with a better head on his shoulders.

What if we can’t trade down?

Here's the thing ... there are only 32 teams in the NFL and you get a new crop of QBs in the Draft every single year. That amount just piles up for options when teams find their guy. Just because we haven't found our guy shouldn't mean we HAVE to get a QB this season. There will always be QBs. When the right one is there, that's when you go get him. We are used to sucking. Waiting until the right one comes along won't matter one bit. What ... you thought we'd go all the way this season? Ok, lol. The day WILL come, Panthers fans. Just be patient. And just say no to Howell, Willis, Pickett, Corral, Strong, Mayfield, JG, and MInshew.

Wanna see bombs thrown again? I know a guy.

Nice throw.  Fans like to see the long bombs, but honestly some of the other top guys can make that throw (60-65 yard completion)  Where Howell really separates himself from some of the other guys in the draft is on some of the out routes.

Personally I want to like Howell a lot.  I think he has one of the best arms in the draft, clearly is tough, and athletic enough not to be a liability based on the rushing load he took on this year.

My only concern, and I honestly haven't watched him as much as others, are some of the advanced accuracy metrics on him.

If a QB struggles when everyone goes well, that can be a bit of a red flag.  Maybe his O-line was so bad last year he was a bit jumpy when he did have time?    I'm sure you can probably speak to that better than most of us since you follow him so closely.

It will be interesting to see his 2020 numbers in the same metric.  His OL did much better than year and he had a couple weapons to work with...

I wonder what those numbers look like for Howell the previous two years? Everything last season comes with a huge asterisk. Howell played QB his first two seasons. Last year, he was trying to play offense. As in carry the entire offense himself.

I’m definitely not hating on anyone. I wish Sam nothing more than success. If I said something that triggered you on a personal level, I apologize. This is just my thoughts on a football player.

Nothing personal. I wasn't offended.

i just get the feeling you dislike Howell, maybe cause he's from UNC, and make statements that don't match up with what professional scouts say about him.

Rather you come out and say why you dislike him than to say things that are exactly true.
