Ian Rapoport: Carolina Panthers seem to be the most likely spot for Baker Mayfield

I’d rather have Baker Mayfield than Sam Darnold or Cam Newton, but I’d honestly prefer for us to look elsewhere for our next starting quarterback. I guess at this point beggars can’t be choosers since our options aren’t great.

You can hate Robbie and agree with him on not wanting Baker. The two are not mutually exclusive.

what would be the point of saying you're going to do this right now without actually doing it? not saying it's 100% garbage, but this kind of thing is what you have to do if you're trying to prevent a leapfrog trade in a year where moving around the first round shouldn't be all that expensive.

DJ's dealt with bad QB play for 80% of the last decade...and that's conservative. That's also wild to me. Testament to his ability. 

Robbie goes a year without Darnold and puts up 1k yards. Sam comes back, Robbie goes back in the bushes. 

Me too, it's just brutal.

DJ has never really had a 100% healthy Cam and his first year was the year Cam was officially ruined. He is unreal and I can only imagine what he would do with a great and healthy QB in the NFL for an entire season, it's never been seen. 

I didn't like the Robbie contract but he has a legitimate reason to not like this idea and he has the guaranteed money left to hide behind.

And I would agree with him. We’d be better off trading down for additional picks and getting say Penning and Howell.

I think a realistic and fair trade would be Darnold for Mayfield but we pay half of Mayfield's 5th year. We lose Sam's albatross contract but slightly overpay for Baker. Hell it's worth a shot. Listen to my logic Fitty!

It would be beyond idiotic to pay both Darnold and Mayfield, though we have to remember our HC is in desperation mode.

The most obvious choice for me is to either roll with Sam and PJ or trade down and get a rookie.

Media says we're not interested in Baker....then we're interested in Baker. 

Media says we're interested in Jimmy G, then we're not...now we supposedly are.

McAdoo does not like Baker, but he does fit Jimmy G's skillset. 

Pickett's our guy!!!! No wait, Panthers have Willis QB1. Corral would be a great fit with Carolina....but wait...how great would Ridder be in Carolina? Oh, Sam Howell is Fitts' new Russ!! 

Meh.....I'm indifferent at this point. It's obvious we need a QB so every potential option is there, and it's clickbait and analysts trying to be the guy that can say "I knew it!" after Carolina puts JimmyMayCorraHowellRidPickillis under center next year.

I don't really want Baker. Just not overly impressed or enthusiastic about him. I know Robby Anderson doesn't want him either and I agree with him but in all honesty I don't much care whether Robby stays or goes either. Geez, I'm just an exciting ball of positivity on this post I guess.
